Peyton Manning to Chiefs.......

I have reliable inside information the Chiefs are the front runner to acquire Peyton Manning. I have a couple friends inside the organization and both called me today telling me this news. Peyton's agent, Tom Condon, is a former Chief and apparently Scott Pioli, Chiefs GM, is working on a very incentive laden contract for Peyton. Also, the other part of the rumor is Reggie Wayne could become a Chief as well, but this is far less likely. I have very credible sources who shared this information with me today, but would rather not post them on a website until the deal is signed and inked.

The Chiefs have a TON of cap room and from this perspective it makes a lot of sense. Clark Hunt isn't a patient owner and realizes his $250-$300 club level tickets along with their expensive suites aren't going to be solid without something huge. One of my good friends is head of their suite sales and I have yet to contact him, but will tomorrow to see what he's heard. I'm not sure how much Peyton has left in the tank, but it would likely make every game at Arrowhead sold out and really spark some electricity in a young team. Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Eric Berry, & Brandon Flowers make up a solid and fairly young core for their defense which was very good late in the year. Add Jamaal Charles back as RB with WR Dwaye Bowe and TE Tony Moekaki back at TE and you could have a really solid team. Add Reggie Wayne and this team has a bunch of weapons in a hurry. KC still needs to find some DT's who are better and a new RT along with at least one better OG. They're far from being a Super Bowl team with Manning, but would be darn good and the favorite to take home the AFC West title. You look at the AFC and it's far weaker than the NFC IMHO so maybe the Chiefs suddenly become a 10-1 shot to win the AFC Championship and 20-1 to win the Super Bowl. If you're a futures guy, it might be worth taking a small wager now rather than waiting to see if the deal or possible deals are inked (keep in mind, it's KC and we're never really good).

I'm not the type to post something without some strong people within the organization telling me this is very likely to happen. The other thing is the odds for offshore books taking bets where Peyton lands have either been taken off the board or have KC the strong favorite to where Peyton lands. Hope the Chiefs don't get in trouble for tampering with a player who is currently signed with another team.

Peyton to KC and healthy would be awesome! Montana did play his final couple years in KC and those teams didn't have the playmakers IMO this team could have if people stay healthy (obviously last year this didn't happen with Charles, Berry, and Moekaki all being out for the year).

definitely would put butts in the seats...and certainly retool their offense...I could see Pioli doing this in a sense, especially if it's incentive laden, and there's minimal risk...

A medically unsure Peyton vs. an inept Palko.

Nice one Blitz... love Slap Shot!

Starting to wonder if it happens for sure, but the people who told me would know. Funny, I talked to an assistant coach from the Redskins this weekend and he thinks they'll get Manning! I didn't tell my story as he's an assistant who was in KC.

Peyton Manning practice video

Here he is throwing at Duke field a few days ago, looks pretty good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKuK-fDT084

I'm not sure what form he will be in next year, but I can't see a team dropping the kind of numbers on him I have heard. However, he will get a lot because he will put fans in the stands...

Well, either your 'reliable inside information' was pulling your leg, or they aren't exactly that high ranking within the organization.

They're high ranking and between them are idiots. I would do a better job than most of these peeps at the top... Pioli, the GM just likes to act like he made NE and Bellichek didn't have any involvement. I apologize for being so misguided as my sources were the top people in the organization who obviously thought their incentive laden contract would attract Peyton while the Titans offered ownership in the team and the Broncos paid $96M for 5 years (not sure the guaranteed money which is HUGE in a deal with an older QB like Peyton).

Anyway, Chiefs will still be a talented team without a good QB which isn't exactly good. Chiefs also don't have the 49'ers defense, but they have a good offense other than QB... which is of course the most important position.

Chiefs will be 7-9 with Cassel as QB while Broncos will either be bust or boom... still remember Chargers have best talent in the AFC Worst Division. It's a joke between 1st & 2nd for talent.

Not sure exactly how healthy Manning really is, not to mention the fact that he will no longer be competing against division rivals in a dome. Raiders are a total joke and San Diego lost their best reciever. I think KC definitely has a shot to win the division this year, and in a division as weak as this one, maybe 7-9 will be good enough to win it!
