Beer Can Turkey -- any tips?

If my 16 pound bird fits on the Weber I am going to try beer can turkey. Anyone done this? Do you still do an overnight brine or does the beery goodness override the need for brining? Also, curious if you put spices and stuff in the beer can.

Well the turkey is too tall when he's perched all vertical. Thinking about laying him down and cramming a few Mickeys into the cavity, like half full. Think I should add the parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme? TIA

sure you have started by this point but will it not fit becuase of the stand. In other words would it fit standing if you just stood it without the beer can stand(assuming your using one) I do about 5 chickens at a time and never use the stands, just shove a beer up its ass and stand it up. Also with a bird that big I would get a 24 ounce can. Take a couple big gulps and poke some holes in the side of the can near the top.

Good Luck bud and have a great Thanksgiving

Dallas was 241-0-1 when leading by 14 in the 4th quater. It only took me playing the Dallas ML to break that streak
