NHL Free Pick | Arizona at Anaheim

Rate this Entry
This game features two teams that are way off anyone’s NHL betting radar. Neither Arizona nor Anaheim would be considered a team to watch, but their collective underachievements are something bettors should watch on Sunday.
The Ducks are currently last in the NHL West Division and they have won just three of their last ten games. Arizona actually still has a shot at a playoff berth trailing fourth-place St. Louis by one point.
The Coyotes have Anaheim’s number so far this season too. Bettors will be focused on a number as well. That would be the total.

Arizona has won four of six games against the Ducks so far this season. Three of those victories were by a single goal. Anaheim won twice, both by a one-goal margin. Anaheim’s last win came at home by a score of 3-2.
The two teams will meet on Friday in Anaheim. Arizona is a -123 favorite and the total is set at 5.5. That is no surprise as both the Coyotes and Ducks are two of the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL.
Arizona is ranked 24th in the league in scoring per game. The Coyotes have a total of 92 goals in 36 games for an average of 2.56 per game.

The Ducks are much worse and if not for the Detroit Red Wings would be the lowest-scoring team in the NHL. Through 37 games, Anaheim has scored just 82 goals, an average of 2.22 per game.
On a handful of occasions, the Ducks have scored four goals in a single game. Only once have they won a game in which they scored four goals. Anaheim erupted once this season scoring six goals in back-to-back games, both wins, in early March.
Since then, the Ducks have won just three of eleven games and scored 0, 1, or 2 goals in all but one of those games. They lost 8-4 to Colorado on March 16.
Take a look at our last article, it was a Beavers vs. Ramblers betting preview.
The Coyotes, on the other hand, have scored 17 goals in their last four games. They won three of those but were blown out by Colorado 9-3 on Wednesday night.
Here is what you have to look forward to on Sunday night. Many would call it a “defensive battle” but in reality it will be more of a “we’re just not that good on offense” type of game.
Anaheim is 30th in the NHL in shots per game (27.1). Guess who is last? That’s right. It’s Arizona (26.1). Teams will never score on 100 percent of the shots that they do not take.
Anaheim ranks at or near the bottom of most every offensive statistical category there is. They have the fewest offensive power play opportunities and, as a result, the fewest power play goals.
Arizona isn’t much better ranking in the bottom half of the league in most of the offensive statistics.
The Over has hit in five of Arizona’s last six games, but the total has gone Under in four of Anaheim’s last five. With the game in Anaheim, the Coyotes will play down to the Ducks level and this total is going Under.

NHL Free Pick: UNDER 5.5
