Believe it or not, people are far more unpredictable than any breed of dog, including Pits.

3 Seconds nailed the problem with his post, particularly this point. Although pits are responsible for the most human fatalities in the U.S., I bet that they are improperly trained (as many people use them as guard dogs and train them to be aggressive).

The Little Rascals dog was a pit bull...around kids all the time! Who didn't love Petey?

Jack, you should watch the dog whisperer. Cesar Millan has many pit bulls in his rehabilitation center, and they are absolutely fabulous dogs. Daddy is one of his best dogs (a pit). There was one episode where a woman was afraid of dogs and her dog sensed that and became aggressive towards other dogs. The pitbulls rehabilitated her. Check out this clip if you have a minute:

then people should have to be licensed to own a dog that can be as aggressive and harming as a pitbull or doberman.

HELLO???

no pitbull for me. i don't even want to be near one. no convincing me otherwise either. too many horror stories about that breed. i'll bet that pitbulls account for the majority of dog attacks and injury to humans out of all dogs combined. i don't even have to look it up to be pretty sure that's correct.

So then do not like/trust/want near you African-Americans?

Despite making up only 12.5% of the US population they are responsible for 59% of all felony murders in the US.* According to the US Dept. of Justice

That is far more skewed than the Pit ratios...:com:

HELLO???

Then people should need licenses for Rottweilers, and German Shepherds, and Doberman Pinschers, and Chows, and Poodles, and Bulldogs and and and...

And they estimate that 10-20 people die yearly from dog bites. My cousin who works in insurance said they get far more claims for Rotts than Pits every year.

Considering there are some 70 million+ dogs in the US, your chances of getting attacked by a pit bull are slim to none. The media wants to feed your fear, but just remember, people are the problem, not dogs. But whatever you want to think about it...I'm not really in an argumentative mood :)

Jack, not that we're arguing, but this seems kind of like one of the "discussions" in the political forum where you can go back and forth with someone all day, but they will never see it another way. You have made up your mind, so what's the point in discussing it further?

Perhaps my view is skewed because I own an aggressive dog myself, but I still love pit bulls!!

and it's NOT far more skewed because i'm sure pitbulls are much less then 12% of all dog population in the USA!

Granted that may be a bit over-zealous, but they are only resposbile for ~25% of all dog related fatalities....so even if they are only 3-4% of pop, it is along the lines of 12% be responsile for ~60%

3 seconds, I almost posted the exact same analogy. Only problem is this subject is too sensitive to me and I would end up not liking someone, and getting pissed off. I can't believe people are shallow enough to think the dogs are the problem, not people.

I know people that won't go around retired Buffalo Bill running backs for chrissakes.................. How many people was that German Shepherd that was talking to Sam Berkowitz responsible for killing??? And then there was that documentary about those daring dogs that pulled off that big bank heist!!!!! Yea, I'm with you on this one Jack.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Even if your mind is made up, I would like to hear how you find this not to be the case.

man, i'm talking about dogs, not people.

and we all take simple precautions, like not walking the ghetto streets at midnight in major cities.

i'm scared of pitbulls, okay? maybe it's ignorance but i don't care and i'd feel a lot safer being in the company of any unarmed human being rather than a pitbull.

maybe it's just me
