Man am I going to miss this view from my kitchen bay window! However I believe with all my mind, heart & soul that God's plan is perfect and He wants to be glorified in everything that happens in our lives whatever the situation may be. It was no circumstance that Tom and I planted a small seedling tree for Natasha when we bought this property over 20 years ago to grow big and strong to overshadow where we laid Leo to rest today. You see Leo was a surprise Christmas present for Natty from Santa when she was in the 4th grade. I always had a Christmas tradition that Natty and Teresa could pick three gifts from Santa just like the Three Wise Men brought three gifts for baby Jesus- the reason for Christmas. Never had limits on how big those gifts could be so here came Leo straight off the Santa sleigh into the pasture! It was magical as the story unfolded that Christmas morning kicking Tom out of the bed before the crack of dawn to trek down to the pasture and bring Leo up for Natty to see after they found the horse stuff in the living room. I knew they would come running in there Christmas morning before the sun came up looking to see what Santa had brought even if it was only three things. I will never forget this one- We had Shadow (our golden retriever puppy) sitting there with a santa hat on a horse bucket with brushes, halter, etc. next to him. Of course I suggested they go look outside to see if Santa left a horse in the pasture and when Natty opened the front door all you could hear because it was still a little dark out was clip clop clip clop as Tom came walking up the driveway with this beautiful bay gelding- we call Leo. The sun peeked through the trees about the same time and all we could see was this beauty! As the years have flown by Leo has brought more joy to more people (mostly kids) than I can mention. If you are reading this post you probably are one of those people! Leo lived a long 33 or more years in great spirits until a brain aneurysm took his life. There is beauty in the end because he knew he would need to be in his place under the tree and that's where we found him and that's where he lays in peace. God looked out for us in this situation just like He always does and I want to glorify Him for what He has done for us!!

That's Leo on the right. The horse on the left is blind.

Leo took care of her for alot of his 33 years. She followed him around to the stable and found the feed buckets and the best hay, with Leo by her side.

This is my neighbor writing the above. You can see that many people were affected by Leo's passing. So many neighborhood kids had their first ride on Leo's broad back in that same pasture.

So how was I involved in this you might ask. Why is this any of my business. We have only lived in this countryside neighborhood for less than 2 years now.

To begin with I do not care much for horses. I have been thrown, stepped on , kicked, leg dragged against trees and obstacles ... by horses in my life. And that was when I tried to stay away from them most of the time.

This past weekend , I am relaxing watching Sunday night football. A call comes in to my wife from the neighbor that lives 3 houses down the country road, with no street lights to speak of.

She was on her back deck. She is hearing loud noises. Like thrashing in the woods. She asks if I can come over to investigate.

I jump up and my first thought is to take a gun. I hesitate and decide its not a good idea. But on the way out I grab the axe handle we keep in the closet in case that census worker guy comes back. I also got my strongest flashlight and shoved it in my pocket.

I screech tires out of the driveway and I am there in minutes. Its real dark.

I look over and the neighbor, from the house, points to the woods. I walk down there and shine the light. As I am looking there is very loud noises, something pushing on the fence and branch's breaking.

    It was Leo

I walked up to him slowly. He was breathing so hard his nostrils were flaring and he was caught up in the underbrush something terrible. He had pushed up against the barbed wire fence and was caught in wire, vines and picker bush's. He thrashed his head andy body around trying to free himself.

With the flashlight shining to space, I grabbed Leo under my right arm & shoulder and held on. Leo jerked his head violently and lifted my off my feet. He set me down hard and I told him to settle down now. It was ok. I stroked his head and neck. He was still breathing hard.

He finally stopped moving around so much. I reached out and grabbed the vine and picker bush and pulled as hard as I could. After several efforts the vine released around his neck, and Leo fell down hard on his right side. He was 10 ft from the pine tree they had planted so many years ago.

Now I couldn't see Leo. I was still thinking in my mind there would be a good outcome.

I stopped and got a pair of clipping shears from the neighbor's garage, who was standing there in her bathrobe. She was at the end of the driveway looking like she was in shock.

I jumped the white vinyl fence and ran to the back of the pasture. Leo had for some reason, decided he was going deep into that thicket. It took me some time to cut a path to get to him. The horse lay in his final resting place. I sat next to him and he was still breathing but quietly now. There was nothing more I could do but sit there in the darkness and wait.

The owner had been called. Tom was not home. She was away from home but told the neighbor she would be there in 15 minutes.

I see headlights of her Ford truck, coming down the long drive. I shine the flashlight so she could see where I was.

She opened the farm gate and I could see her walking swiftly. She was crying.
She said where is he ?

We walked down the 4 ft wide path I had cut through the bush's.

Leo was 33 yrs old she told me. A exceptional age for any horse. She said he was not going to get up and she would have to put Leo down.

I consoled her as much as I could. She called the vet down the road and they would soon come down with the put down shot mixture.

I left her the flashlight to use and walked to my truck and left.

The next day they got a friend with a tractor to come and dig the hole to bury Leo.
She buried him under the pine tree .

She called me the next day thanking me for the help of being a neighbor in Leo's time of need. She said horses being such large animals, can really struggle when they get to that death stage. It can be dangerous to be around them.

She said that it had to be God that had sent me to help Leo and help him to the place near his tree.

To me in my way of thinking about life, maybe God did send me.

But with my history with horse's it would be hard to understand.

It is amazing how you think your shtick is actually funny. Also itís interesting at how you scoff at meeting anyone from the site, or the golf outing. However it is obvious that you read every thread pertaining to it, watch all the videos and look through all the pictures. Why? Who really knows, but appears you think you are being witty by clipping pictures and gaining tidbits from the videos so that if you are ever in one of your tough guy internet arguments you talk about a helmet someone wore or something else trivial.

Iím debating who has the more annoying internet persona, you or Hedge. Itís truly a coin flip at this point.

Keep the meaningless pictures and video clips where you try to relate the characters to someone at MadJacks. They are a load of laughs.

    Scott!!!! Buddy,

Come on brother. You don't need to go this route bro. I think you know that I have absolutely nothing bad to say about you and I like talking to you via internet.
This isn't you man. Poon is actually a very cool cat as is BBC. Chuck and I had our differences but I am sure that shit is behind us as we are both grown men and we decided that we/I will act as such. I am looking forward to hanging with them again very soon, just as I would look forward to hanging with you if the opportunity ever presents itself.

I am not one to talk as I get on arguments on here as well but I try to let it go once calmer heads prevail.

Look, all I am saying is, I think you are a good dude and I appreciate your posts. I appreciate BBC and POON as friends and good dudes and am looking forward to considering Chuck a friend as well. Common sense (Hedgie will need a translator here) tells you they must be good guys to have as many friends as they do. Just sayin.... I think all of you guys can co-exist without this crap.

Hope that helps (I really do not remember stealing that moniker from you either there stud muffin... )
