Think it's gonna be a long year for the Scarlet Knights. Butch Davis has definitely got his Tarheels heading in the right direction. They may not get there this year, but they will soon. As weak as the ACC is this year, who knows?

I like the Heels and in this year's ACC they for sure are a contender. It might not be a great league, but its really hard to separate 1 to 12, so it should be a fun league race to watch with different teams taking the role of "leader" throughout the year. I am not even sure you can count Duke out of bowl contention.

UNC plays VT at home next week and then at Miami to close out September. We'll know if they are a legit threat to win their division after those games or if they're still a year away from big things.

Rutgers, meanwhile, will not go to a bowl this year. They have a tough slate--for them at least--and I dont know if they can cobble enough wins together to get to 6-6, let alone 7-5. I've bet against them twice already this year and will continue to do so if the oddsmakers keep giving them "respect."

I think they could be for real. Like it was stated above me...the next two games will tell the tale of how the year could go.

The Rutgers win is big. The Tarheels will now go into a big home game with Va Tech. Va Tech has their own identity problem right now....so I'm hoping that the schedule makers did us a favor by giving them to us early on in the year. If nothing else, the win against Rutgers will give the kids some confidence in themselves and in what Butch Davis is teaching them. My only fear is that they come into the Va Tech game a little too amped up. I hope they play with a chip on their shoulder and want to protect home field.

One game at a time is how they need to take things. Could be a very good year for the 'Heels!

A little of both. We're not as good as the win made us look, but Rutgers probably isn't as bad as we made them look either.

Main concerns after that game: Rutgers was able to get receivers wide open in our zone coverage. Had Teel not overthrown his WRs multiple times for easy pics the game would have been different.

No penetration by D line, ended with 1 sack at the end of the 4th quarter that was really a coverage sack. Can't stick to rushing 4 and let QBs camp out until someone gets open in the zone. Teel had way too much time but he is horrible.

Definitely an important win for confidence and most importantly for recruiting. I think next week it's important to follow up and continue the momentum...can't wait for it cause chapel hill will be rockin.

Glad you mentioned this, Saint. I meant to. The D-line was completely inept. At times it looked like the Rutgers O-line didn't have to exert much energy just to block out guys. We either need to blitz just a little more (or at all), or plan on giving up a lot of passing yards to the first QB that doesn't suck

It was such a fun game to watch being a Carolina fan, not to mention winning a lot of money.

Rutgers wide receivers getting open a lot concerns me too. That's been a staple of UNC's defense for several years now. But seeing the secondary make so many tackles immediately after the catch, many times preventing 1st downs, that is something I haven't seen in awhile.

The offense showed what they are capable of. Brandon Tate is literally on pace for the heisman, but I'm sure teams will adjust.

Looking forward to VaTech game.
