TO hit a 4 year old 20 to 30 times with a switch leaving cuts and bruises all over him is wrong.thats not parenting brother.
did you see the photos of the poor kid. a 4 yr. old is barely out of diapers for fuks sake!!
ill pass judgement on that....peterson or any other bullying sik fuk that hits a 4 yr. old to that extent needs some serious fuking help. if you cant see that then you are just as fuked in the head.
again, its a 4 YR. OLD KID WE ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Kind of out dated but interesting.

Corporal Punishment in U.S. Public Schools
2005-2006 School Year: data released March, 2008

In the 2005-2006 school year, 223,190 school children in the U.S. were subjected to physical punishment. This is a significant drop of almost 18%, continuing a steady trend from the early 1980's.

Notes:
African-American students comprise 17% of all public school students in the U.S., but are 36% of those who have corporal punishment inflicted on them, more than twice the rate of white students.
Almost 40% of all the cases of corporal punishment occur in just two states: Texas and Mississippi, and if we add Arkansas, Alabama and Georgia, these five states account for almost three quarters of all the nation's school paddlings.

not even remotely surprising.

MAYBE A GOOD RULE IS TO PADDLE WITH OPEN HAND TILL A CERTAIN AGE AND WHEN THE EMBARRASSMENT AND/OR PAIN OF IT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE, YOU BETTER HAVE COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE. BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I WAS A KID, BUT A COUPLE SMACKS WITH AN OPEN HAND COULDN'T HURT MUCH AFTER 7-8, BUT IS MORE OF AN EMBARRASSMENT......ANY PADDLES ARE A NO - NO..I MAY BE WRONG JUST AN OPINION.

This was my experience, my mom spanked me until my ass started hurting her hand more than the other way around. :mj07:
I think some light spanking of kids who are too young to understand logic and reason has some place in raising a child, but I am sure there are plenty of studies that suggest otherwise. Beyond the age you references (7-8) it gets embarrassing, for everybody involved.

I was spanked by hand, was never afraid of parents. If they had used a object or spanked me for no reason maybe it would be a different story. When I was spanked i deserved it

I was spanked too when I deserved it- although sometimes my dad would use a leather belt and leave bruises when he was drunk or in some sort of rage. I would hate to have endured what my step mom put up with.

Absolutely against.

Coming from a home where spankings and frequent "hard wrist grabs" were the norm, my opinion on any kind of physical punishment is that it has more negative consequences than good.

A child who is disobedient or who may "deserve" a spanking may just as likely learn their lesson with another punishment option.. like "time out" or losing privileges... options that don't leave them feeling scared, resentful, or more likely to use physical/violent reactions themselves.

Everyone has free will and the ability to use self control, however, because I was raised in a home where I was ALWAYS afraid, and regularly spanked HARD or "rough housed" when I was disobedient.... now as an adult, my first instinct is usually to hit or to yell. I don't think it would necessarily be the case if my parents had handled my behavioral problems with love and patience.

This may be bold, but it is my OPINION that there would be a lot less shootings, violence, child abuse, mental health issues, and poor self esteem in this world if more parents chose to communicate with their children like they are also human beings. Human beings who learn from their parents more than anyone else from a really early age. Who make mistakes, and disobey, but still deserve to feel safe and loved in their own home.

I know spanking isn't necessarily "child abuse"..but being spanked as a kid was scary for me, and I know I would have responded to and respected my parents a lot better if I hadn't been.

There's my 2 cents.. don't spend it all in one place

1). Spanking should be the last resort and only used when other punishments fail. Example: my brothers' kids have never been spanked. They are horrible. They run wild and destroy the house, they don't listen, they throw tantrums, they run out into the street, they talk back, they openly and defiantly say no when told to do something, etc. I remember spanking my kids less than 5 times each. Mine never did that shit, and they have always been the most loving kids. As they get older, different forms of punishment have to be used.

2) you can not reason with a baby/toddler. They aren't adults, and they aren't capable of higher discussions yet. They can learn no though. I see young parents who can't even change a diaper on a 6 month old bc the kid is rolling around and won't be still. The changing table is one of the first places to teach discipline and no. If you can't change a diaper then heaven help you when your child is a teenager.

3) "if you don't do xxxxx by the time I count to 3.... One, twooooooooooooooo........" Then the parent never gets to three and the kid never does whatever they were supposed to do. Worst most inneffective method of alternative punishment. Counting doesn't work.

4) the Wal-mart trailer park mom who swats and spanks her hellions constantly. Horribly inneffective, and it's bc she is too stupid and lazy to properly parent.

5) lastly, dogs were mentioned. Dogs are far easier to "train" than children. As much as I and everyone else here loves a good dog, they are not the same as people, and any argument comparing the two is ridiculous. Lazy dog owners can however be compared to lazy parents. Sit a kid in front of the boob tube all day or chain your dog to a tree outside all day; the kid is horrible and doesn't listen, and the dog is constantly jumping on you or guests at your house.

The Boys, it's rap not wrap you stupid idiot. The Boys should have been spanked in the face because his upbringing sure left a lot to be desired as he proves more and more all the time.

PS. I'm sure there are great kids somewhere in the USA who have never been spanked. I haven't met them yet. I have met a lot who were spanked and are still horrible. S

My 5 year old son responds to raising my voice when I need to get his attention, he has only been in time out a handful of times at my house, my 8 year old daughter has been spanked a few times before she was 5 and in timeout multiple times more when she was younger, now when she needs discipline I take away something she likes and its much worse than any belt or paddle would be

WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGY, MAYBE THE BEST PUNISHMENT SOON WILL BE TO JUST MAKE A KID GO OUT AND PLAY....OBVIOUSLY SENDING THEM TO THEIR ROOM QUIT BEING A DETERENT A COUPLE DECADES AGO.

It's possible. It just takes much, much more effort. That's one knock on consistent physical punishment. It's lazy parenting. Being good parents requires CONSTANT attention, constant instruction. I've found lazy parents let things slide all day and then blow up at some point. You've always got to be "on" to be a good parent.

POY IMHO:toast:

If I took a stick and hit someone on the street I would be arrested. But somehow its OK for me to hit my 4 year old with a stick because "they needed it"?
