I'm a first-year law student at ASU, but I'm also 28 and don't hang with the undergrad crowd at all, so take that for what it's worth.

For undergrad, Arizona is considered the "better" academic school of the two, although neither has much of a national reputation in that department. There are some very, very bright students at both, but admission requirements and tuition are so low for in-state students that there are a ton of morons around that hurt the reps of the schools. I don't know too much about Arizona except that my friends that have visited both are much more partial to Tempe than Tucson.

People here often say that ASU is just hurt by its "Party School" rep, but I went to undergrad at a "Party School" and we've always been highly-regarded when it comes to academic. They just let in too many in-state kids with bad scores and overall the school suffers. It does have a good business school and strong Law and MBA programs. There are a few other good programs, but that's all I really know.

I have almost zero interaction with undergrads or the "college lifestyle" anymore, so I can't help you much on that end but I can say that there is plenty to do around Tempe. Although purely from a "scenery" point of view, the few times I have wandered through the main campus, there is quite a bit to look at! And having come from the upper midwest myself, the weather is certainly a strong selling point.

Had you enrolled in a real school in Iowa, you wouldn't have this problem now...:mj07:

Ames is a joke of a college town, as you well know. Everything is far apart, there are no decent bars, the High School field here in town is nicer than Jack Trice, its not called "Moo U" for nothing, etc etc...

Yes, I may be biased as I earned both an undergrad and graduate degree from the University of Iowa, but there is no comparing the college experience between Ames and Iowa City.

If you decide not to head out to Arizona(I'd lean towards ASU as the co-eds are better looking there) you really should check out Iowa City.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I have to agree with pretty much everything you said there. The only reason I came here was to play hockey and that turned into a disaster when I blew out my hamstring. Im just looking to start over at a new place, im not very happy with what happend after I got hurt or the school in general. Kind of sucks because I feel like i've wasted a year but life goes on. Arizona/ASU both have respectable ACHA teams so they peak my interest.

University of Iowa has a horrible d2 team so it wouldnt be too much use for me to go there, however tons people from my high school class go there and are having a great time.

Yeah, not much of a hockey program at Iowa. Thought they were just a club team. They were 20 years ago when I was a student.
Weird in the hockey is big in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, but its non-existent in Iowa...

Sounds like you have enjoyed the nightlife in Iowa City a time or two, then. While the ladies at the U of I can't compare with those in Arizona, they are much easier on the eyes than over there in Ames...:mj07:
