Shallow Fly, then a double to Juan Pierre for the Ball Games!!! The least he could of done was given up a Grand Slam so I could of won on the OVER! Instead h screwes everyone!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUCKING! Your supposed to CLOSE THE game for the METS not the other team you piece of.......................................................................................

Only thing I can hope for is Art Howe doesn't take that crap like Bobby V did.. He can beat his girlfriend but he can't beat the Marlins or the Spos. He's such a POS, He doesn't even show any remorse after. how horrible does someone have to prove they are when they almost let the winning run score on a friggen Intentional WALK.. C'mon I'd rather have someone from the infield/outfield come in and pitch then this piece of crap.

dont blame benitez....blame howe.

you dont bring in a CLOSER to get the final 5 outs of a game. You bring them in the 9th inning. A closer is supposed to be a drastic change from the types of pitches that the team has seen all night. You dont want to bring a closer in too early so the other team can adjust. Howe used to do this with Koch too....and Koch used to get rocked when he did it. Howe really blew this one...

Ok. I agree it's HOWE fault too.. BUT...... Koch sux too. He went to school with my older sister and the only reason he was good was because the towns surrounding us don't have good baseball teams except for Northport, Lindenhurt, North Babylon (Surrounding Towns.) I don't know what he did in College. Whose fault was it when Koch blew the game the other day for the Sox? If a closer needs to be relied upon for 6 outs instead of 3, I think for 6.9 MILLION he should be able to accomidate! Hoffman has done it, Nen has done it, Riveira has done it. Because they are Good closers. Bottom line he has too many blown saves for earning 6.9 Mill this year alone. Hell give me 6.9 MILL, and I'll shoot the guy in the leg to make sure he don't make it to 1st base!

Howe shouldn't of brought him in early knowing he sux, but Benitez should be able to do HIS JOB!!!!!

DO YOU REMEMBER GAME 7 OF 2001 WORLD SERIES?, RIVERA STRIKE OUT THE SIDE IN THE 8TH, THEN LOST THE WORLD SERIES IN THE 9TH. CLOSERS ARE FOR THE 9TH INNING, ONLY.

true......

I do remember Game 7. BUT let me rephrase it....

Closers are for the 9th inning but sometimes and in everyday Jobs that are 9-5 people are requested to do things that are outside of the ordinary of their job. People do it everyday. Everyone is entitled to a bad day theres no argument there, BUT How many bad days has Benitez had compared to the Closers I'v mentioned earlier? The three have probably Less Blown saves combined than Benitez, and I'm sure they have a bunch. Like I said everyone is entitled to BAD days, but a lead is never safe with Benitez. Sometimes he is expected to do 6 outs instead of 3, give the game away maybe 3 times out of the year, not 2 already in 9 games. If Benitez pitches 3 days in a row he has blown the save in almost every third game except for a small # amount of games.. Whats the excuse there? People work 5 days a week he can't pitch 3 days in a row when he has about 100 games off? Plus He gets 6.9 MILL for it! Theirs No excuse for it, he's been doing it for years with the O's and now with the Mets. Once in a while it's FINE, but this guy is ridiculouse. He also did it against the Expos Sunday, he was bought in, in the 9th inning. What's his excuse there?

I am a DIE Hard Mets fans to any Mets fans that take offense to this. I'm sure other Die Hard Mets fans agree though, figured I'd mention that just in case.

But seriously....people have this notion that closers are good pitchers. With the exception of a few.....they are not. If they were so damn good, they would be in the starting rotation. They are usually good "closer" because they throw so hard or throw so funky, or are so erratic that the other team says...."WTF?" and by the time they figure it out...the game is over.

That is why I dont understand why the Braves are still using Smoltz as a closer when their starting pitching is so damn bad right now. He is their best pitcher, and they dont get to use him much now.

As for Koch....I have never been a fan of his. But he is the typical closer....erratic, wild, and throws hard. He gets rocked if he stays in too long though. And by the way....that guy is throwing in the low 90's this year and no one has mentioned it on TV during a game. If he continues to throw "soft" he is going to be in for a rough year.

Great post Tease. Good point about closers. Benitez kills me all the time. As a die hard Mets fan, it's never over even when Benitez comes in. :(
