couple of things i don't understand...
why put a bunch of hillbilly rednecks on a tv show if the network is gonna get upset when they say stuff you'd expect hillbilly rednecks to say?
why is this show about hillbilly rednecks on the a&e channel?
why was gq magazine doing an interview with this dumbass hillbilly redneck in the first place?
is this really news? i mean, i've never seen this show. who watches this crap?

Interesting that it is not ok to blast homosexuals, people by race, fat people and anyone else due to various demographic, race based or behavior based criteria, but it is ok to call people Rednecks (which is certainly a negative slur)......

Where is the media on this? Shouldn't they come out and protest this, as they do for other groups they choose to protect?

Seems that we should not use this word either.... maybe call them "economically disadvantaged European Americans" or something like that? :0corn

That dumbass redneck has a masters degree from LSU and is a multimillionaire.
Where did you get your masters degree from?

I do not have a masters degree either but I am not trolling on a forum calling a well respected individual a dumbass either.

Pel7 - just to be clear, I was not calling him a redneck... that was a previous poster. I don't like the word - I see it no different than many of the racial slurs that are used today....

Well here's prob what you need to understand boys from deeeeetroit, my guess is A&E thought they were going to be funny bringing this back woods country folk family on there network for laughs, initially trying to mock them in a way. Instead lots of people gravitated to the show for a number of different reasons, one is the Christian values, family dinners, prayer and telling it like it is which is and has been lacking in society these days. And maybe, certain groups thought they got too popular.

Basically in my opinion, we've become a country of pussies, crying whenever something is said against us or what we do and bending and apologizing to every lobby group in the country.

My grandpa came across from Poland on a boat in 1913. I grew up in the Chicago area with more Polack jokes thrown at me than would be ever possible today, and I learned to laugh at every one of them. Maybe it helped build character or taught me not to take life too seriously. But whatever; it was part of life, we made fun of everyone and each other, part of growing up. Also another thing, we didn't get participation trophies for playing ball, if you lost you knew you lost and you went and practiced and tried to get better than the guy that whipped you ass. Lessons learned on the ball field can help in life!

We're at a tipping point where we have a liberal base who wants everyone to be tolerant as long as you believe and have the same opinion as them. WTF, since when did we require everyone to have the same thoughts and beliefs about anything? And since when did the media not step up to defend freedom of speech?

Don't mean to bring politics into it but this situation is a great example of what I feel is wrong with todays' society. And I agree with ya Mags, they can't have it both ways.

I wonder how many young people would even know why someone uses the POLISH people in a joke as a suggestion of lack of intelligence. They kind of went away on their own didn't they? "No POLISH groups against POLLOCK" jokes, just enough intelligent Polish people in the world to prove the jokes were meaningless after awhile. Finally they started using blonde instead.

This all has elements of truth, but at the same time I think "back in the good ole days" (which by the way people have been talking about for thousands of years... things were always better back then).. back in the good ole days some duck farmer or whatever the hell he is wouldn't let himself be filmed 24/7, wouldn't parade his views in front of a camera, and certainly wouldn't say something as uncouth as what he said. Where is HIS dignity and humility? What good has his prayer and family dinners and "telling it like it is" done, if none of that helped him develop the wisdom not to sell his soul to the lowest common denominator? If you whore yourself out for money and notoriety I can't see how ANYTHING you say can be taken held in anything but the lowest regard.

So fine, bemoan trophies for 8th prize, and whining about racial jokes, everyone hates that shit, but where is the outrage over Americans tuning in to watch the 8th most creative, uplifting, honest show on TV at any given time. Maybe that kid who wins 8th prize will end up appearing on the next best reality show, and become a bigger "star" with a bigger voice and influence than those who earn 1st prize.

And here I am feeding the beast, by commenting on a thread about something ridiculous while drone strikes are killing hundreds, children are starving, the NSA is spying on us constantly, and my focking underwear is riding up. People are weird eh? :0008
