Thursday practice update
The Ducks were in shells inside Autzen Stadium for practice this morning, a typical Thursday ?mental day? in Chip Kelly?s regimen.
Kelly is still employing some gamesmanship as to his starting quarterback, saying today the choice of Jeremiah Masoli or Nate Costa on Saturday at Washington would be a game-time decision. Costa started over Masoli at UCLA two weeks ago while Masoli nursed a knee injury, but Masoli has been able to practice this week. The depth chart released this week lists Masoli ?or? Costa as the starter.
A final decision has yet to be made on free safety T.J. Ward, Kelly said, but he seems cautiously optimistic the senior will play for the first time since injuring his ankle at Boise State.
I didn?t seen any game helmets being tested for Saturday, so no confirmation of reports that Oregon?s uniform will be black helmets, white jerseys and black pants, though that?s what I?m expecting.
Finally, former UO defensive end Nick Reed, now starring with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL, dropped by practice today. Reed was 4-0 against Washington in his UO career, for what it?s worth.
