PITTSBURGH -- Cards right-hander Kyle Lohse had an abbreviated bullpen session on Friday that kept him on track to make Sunday's scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Lohse, who has been plagued by an assortment of unusual injuries the past several seasons, was worried that inflammation that developed in the middle finger of his pitching hand might be a nerve or a circulatory issue. Thursday's tests, which included an MRI exam, indicated nothing more serious than inflammation that could be treated with ointment.

The Cardinals indicated that a final determination would take place on Saturday, when the club learns whether Friday's throwing session caused any delayed swelling. He had no issues after receiving treatment on Saturday.
