Well, after reading religiously over the last month or so, I've finally been able to log on and start posting.
First, let me say thanks to Aces, you've been very kind to me. I've been following your picks for the last week and a half and, needless to say, you've been hot. Keep up the good work.
I have to say I'm new at this game. I'm a college student and find gambling on sports the safest type of gambling there is. Along with texas hold'em, the skill needed to succeed at sports gambling allows one to be able to beat their book, whereas if you sit at a blackjack table long enough, you're going to come out a loser. With that said, if I could stay away from the parlay temptation, I'd be doing alright.
I personally like looking at trends and momentum. Take the dallas game tonight. Dallas came in playing good hockey while the Caps have been leaving a little to be desired. The perception was the Caps were well rested and the Stars were tired. I saw a lot of betting on the Caps and I think this is the main reason. The Stars have been in a groove. I was listening to the game tonight and the announcer said it best when he said, "The Stars seem to know where eachother are without looking while the Caps are still trying to get their legs beneath them." The Caps were rusty while the Stars were clicking. 6-1 stars. I also use a bit of a system to try to find trends based on ranking differences. I use the Dunkel Index, you can find his site easily via search engine if you need to, and depending on who is favored and by how much and where the game is being played, I've found some very interesting trends. Again using the game tonight as an example, by his ratings, washington, playing at home, was rated at -1.83 pucks better than Dallas. In that situation over the course of the past couple weeks, the home favorites are 1-4. Dogs have been killing people (or, in Aces case, kicking ---) and I know some of these trends are a little inflated due to lack of time, but I'm still doing the research. Same goes for basketball.
The way I've been playing is to find out, using these trends and momentum, who is most likely to win the game outright and if I can find a line where the juice isn't too high, I play that line. This opens the doors to lots of underdog money line bets.
I'm probably overdoing it a little, that was a long post, but hey, I'm excited. I'm finally on. Like I said, I'm new to all of this and while I've been picking your brains for the last month without you knowing it, there's still more to learn than I probably realize. So please, any advice or comments or criticism is more than welcome.
Aces, keep the picks rolling. I saw you were leaning towards the Stars tonight too, but I didn't follow my system and put 2 units on the Caps. Ouch
Never again do I go against you when we're on the same side!
Good luck guys and I look forward to future posts.
