2 plays today

Milwaukee -110 (3x)
I watch a lot of Brewers games, and this team is still playing hard. They set a goal of finishing above .500 this season. This is all they have been talking about the last month. They got win #80 yesterday, and now only need to win 2 out of 3 against Pittsburgh to reach their goal. I watched them yesterday, and they played like it was a playoff game. These guys want it bad. I'm going with the more motivated team still playing to reach a goal they are so close to getting.

Cleveland RL +125 (2x)
Sox clinched yesterday. They did some celebrating last night before traveling to Cleveland for tonight's game. I look for a let-down tonight and then a solid effort Saturday and Sunday to get ready for the playoffs. I also can't see Buehrle going too deep in the game as the Sox start getting their pitching rotation ready for Tuesday's opener, and will want them as strong as possible. Sox with nothing to play for here, while it is a must-win for Cleveland.

Hope I'm not intruding on your thread, but you got me thinking. The Blue Jays, like the Brewers, have been shooting for a .500 season this year. JP set that as a goal right at the start. They are now 78-81 with 3 games to finish off the season and need to sweep KC. Not an impossible feat. Your reasoning may apply to them, also.

Josh Towers for the Jays was mentioned as being cold in Soul's trend thread, so I decided to look deeper. In fact, the two pitchers tonight look like this:

Towers (Toronto) 12-12 with 3.83 ERA
Greinke (Kansas City) 5-16 with 5.58 ERA

In August, Towers was 3-2 with 2.49 ERA
In September, Towers was 2-2 with 2.83 ERA
He averaged just over 7 innings per game.

So why is he considered "cold"? Because he was 1-2 in his last 3 games with a 5.1 ERA. BUT when I look at his last 3 games, he lost in 7 innings vs the Yankees and gave up 5 runs (but only 3 earned); he won in 6 innings vs Seattle and gave up 4 runs (but again, only 1 of them earned); and finally, he pitched and lost in 7 innings against Boston and gave up 4 runs (all earned). That is not too shabby when your 2 losses in September come against the powerhouses of your division. All in all, he has had a solid season, so he is not a reason to avoid the Jays tonite, as I first thought.

Anyways, I'm not trying to talk anyone into anything, it's just that you got me thinking, that's all. I saw the Milwaukee game yesterday and those guys were sure pumped, no question about it! Just not sure it's wise to go against Perez tonite, will have to think on it some more. Thanks for your take on this game. :)
