 NFL would get better ratings if they went head to head...Why not Friday night?

One of the perks of winning the Super Bowl is getting to host the next season opener in prime time. But when the Giants begin the defense of their championship at MetLife Stadium this fall, they will also get an extra-long break before their second game.

The 2012 opener has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5, instead of the traditional Thursday start, to avoid conflicting with President Obama?s speech at the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6. It will be the first N.F.L. game played on a Wednesday since 1948.

The Giants will have 10 days off before they have to play again.

The season opener will kick off at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. An opponent will be announced later, but the Green Bay Packers, who won the Super Bowl after the 2010 season, are on the Giants? schedule. If that is the opening matchup, it will be the second year in a row with the winners of the two most recent Super Bowls.

The N.F.L. has opened its season on the Thursday after Labor Day since 2002, and the defending champion has hosted the game since 2004. The Super Bowl champion is 8-0 in the kickoff game.

Why does it matter? I highly doubt the Democratic President would speak at the RNC.

you know what I mean  If the nominee was going to talk on Thursday would they change the opening of the season?

So wait you are bitching because the season starts a day earlier?

Be nice if you would find something important to get upset about.

Has little do with day of the week that the season is started on. Look at what is in bold and red. That's what matters to him.

Its a frigging game, Whether you like him or not, he is your President and will continue to be for about five more years and I personally like to hear what one of the leaders of the free world has to say once in a while.

As far as Republican Convention goes, I am sure they will find something to bitch about anyway.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Hedge it does not matter who the president holding office is. A no brainer they would want to move it to not conflict with this function. That said FDC this leader of the free world I care not to listen. But he is still our President!

Okay, office of President argument, your right...I would like to see an NFL game go against Obama in ratings and see who wins, even on ESPN I think would get better ratings

I will be watching the game either way...college game is still on Thursday night, right
