if he says that he can't afford to charge another 14 cents for his pizzas, I'd be inclined to believe him.
Even you, ssd, cannot be that gullible. Pizzas are not priced to the nearest 14 cents. when did you ever see a pizza priced @ $9.31? $12.63?
They're virtually always priced on whole dollar increments, whether it's $4.99 at Little Cesar's, $9.99 at Pizza Inn, or $!7.99 at the gourmet pizza joint.
And it's always priced, not according to the COGS, but to the competition.
And, if costs increase by 14 cents, then all the pizza joints will have the same cost basis increase, and pizza will go up 14 cents everywhere.
In actuality, depending on the competition, they'll either go up a dollar, or cut their costs 14 cents.
They have tricky ways to cut costs -
Introducing our NEW Exta-Thin, Extra-Crispy Crust!! Eat more pizza and lose weight too! Just a dollar more than our regular pizza!!!!
I bet it costs Papa johns under 50 cents to make a pizza. He can just raise the price of pizza 25 cents and he can sport another 11 cent profit, on top of the obscene amounts they make now.
obscene amounts, because he has a castle with a draw bridge
Apparently, this guy has been an extremely good business man.
I would imagine that he understands the COGS, err, COST of GOODS SOLD, etc of his business and if he says that he can't afford to charge another 14 cents for his pizzas, I'd be inclined to believe him.
I do know from a report on the local news, perhaps regarding Papa Johns, that a franchise owner used to have a margin of 10% per pizza and now has 2%.
Do I think he needs to live in a castle?
NO.
But, he earned his money and he can spend it how he wishes.

GOP?
I support and voted for Gary Johnson.
Why should I even bother to reply when you already know the answer, FDC?
Lie. Your mind is already made up.
Be a complete waste of my time.
The 10 points I listed are completely true.
Take a look at the mass exodus of the RICH from France now that their tax rate has gone to 75%.
Look at the mass exodus of rich leaving California for the same reasons - tax rates - and more will be leaving after this past election cycle.
And before you flame away, FDC - you might want to take a look at Gary Johnson's stances on the issues.
Duff - the majority of the money made in the fast food restaurant business, even restaurants in general, are made off beverages. I think one as schooled as you would know that. I once owned 2 franchises and managed a bar. You do not make your money on food. That $1.99 soda you bought probably cost the fast food joint about $0.19 - with the majority of that being paper cost for the cup, lid and straw.
