Juanda won.
Yes, I was rooting for Hellmuth
I just read this little tidbit. With online poker not being an option for US players, maybe live poker will pick up some steam?I can't imagine how devoid of US players the WSOP will be in the future, with online poker drying up over here.
Kenny Nguyen is Day 1 Chipleader in Record Field
Posted 45 minutes ago by Paul_Oresteen ? Level 10: 400-800, 100 ante
Day 1 of Event 18, $1,500 No Limit Hold?em, set the WSOP record for the single largest field ever in a $1,500 event, breaking the record set in 2007 by six players. Kenny Nguyen is your Day 1 chipleader with 110,600, followed by Jon Lane, Stewart Stone and David Briedes - all breaking the 100,000 mark.
"Here! Show him! Show him what I threw away!" Hellmuth said to the dealer, reaching into the muck. Hellmuth picked out {J-Hearts} and showed it to Juanda. "You were supposed to bust me there! Tournament over! Anyone else shoves there with jack low, then you pull the ten and tournament over! I just had a bad feeling about the jack!"
"The great Phil Hellmuth instincts" said Juanda with a smile.
But Hellmuth wasn't done with his jubilation there.
"Honey!" Phil shouted into the crowd toward his wife. "I just saved my life! He was supposed to bust me there but I just saved my own life!"
Phil Hellmuth - 2,555,000
Richard Ashby - 680,000
John Juanda - 360,000
Steve Sung - 185,000

Jack, the point I was making is.......so many players are in the WSOP because of nickel and dime satellite games online.
Now what?
I read that Phil was about 2/1 in chips when they got heads up. Jawanda just methodically picked him apart as Phil was playing tight like it was still a 7 handed game. Jawanda finished 4th in 09 and 10 this same event.Wow. I can't wait to read how this went down. Did Hellmuth literally cry? Juanda is the man and a gracious winner. Only thing better would have been if Mike the Mouth or someone like that beat him.
Phil was playing tight like it was still a 7 handed game.
The point he was making is that there was a record field this week in a tournament without the online poker.
I'll bet they get over 3000 for the Main Event. You game?Oh, bullshit. You can't tell me most of those mooks didn't win their spots online. If people have to cough up 10gs to play in the main event, the field will be back down to the hundreds, not thousands.
