Sep. 8 - With four quarterbacks on the their active roster, the Chargers are likely using current srtarter Brees as trade bait, speculates the North County Times. Although Brees is a hard worker and managed to keep his job in training camp (thanks mostly to the late arrival of first-round pick Philip Rivers), he's not considered the QB of the future in San Diego. Instead of simply cutting Brees, the Chargers believe Brees has value and they can get something in return for him before the Oct. 19 trade deadline.
You just never know what is going to happen at the trade deadline," Chargers GM A.J. Smith said. "There are a lot of teams out there who don't have that kind of backups at quarterback like we do."
