Info on the Oregon/BYU game I overlooked

The important information: Cougars coach Bronco Mendenhall is his own defensive coordinator, and he'll be matching wits with his former boss at BYU, Gary Crowton, now the offensive coordinator of the Ducks. BYU is 16th nationally in scoring defense and Oregon is 17th in scoring offense.

I think that is an advantage to BYU, as Mendenhall will know how to stop Oregon's gimmicky WR screen and spread attack. Not to mention I wouldn't trust Dennis Dixon to QB my old high school team now a days...and Brady Leaf is, well, a Leaf.

Like this play for many reasons. Only thing I don't love is that the whole staff of "Cold Pizza" picked a BYU blowout.

All kidding aside, this is a solid angle. Hope it hits for us.

Someone should blow that show off the map. The worst sports show I've ever seen. I can watch Jim Rome 10 times out of 10 over that mess.

Anyway, I'm definitely a little worried now that they've picked a BYU blowout. :nono:

i hate to disagree with you guys but i'm leaning the other way.

oregon can run the ball.....byu can't

oregon has 2 receivers that are about 6'5''....byu 2ndary is hurting.

byu hasn't seen a team with speed like oregon.

sos is on oregon's side by a wide margin.

the only thing that is holding me back right now is that i'm not a fan of alternating qbs like oregon does.

i think this game will be decided by a fg.

good luck guys.

AR,

BYU played

Arizona
BC
TCU

Don't know if they have "as much" team speed as Oregon but they are fast teams and Arizona pistol whipped Oregon. Also, Oregon is gutless so I give motivational factor to BYU.

I will agree with AR that Oregon is faster than the three above mentioned teams, especially BC. To me the fact that Oregon is in a tailspin and has not been a good bowl team recently is a bigger factor.

Running the ball doesnt mean much if you cant pass it. Navy can run the ball...but they dont reap the full benefit b/c they can't throw it.

Not saying Oregon is Navy, but Dixon is lost and Leaf isn't very good.

And you can counter your argument from BYU's side saying
BYU can throw the ball - Oregon can't.

BYU has seen Arizona, who beat them earlier in the year...and their speed is faster on defense. Granted, that isn't a great argument considering they scored under 15 points...but Oregon's defense isn't as good and that was the first game of the year.

teams in tailspins sometimes do well in bowl games...there is enough time between the end of the season & the bowl game to re-energize.

btw...byu hasn't won a bowl game since 1996.

byu has some injuries in the 2ndary...& have nobody that matches up to 2 very tall receivers.because of that you don't have to be a great passer....i also don't think oregon's defense is as bad as people think....

hey guys don't go by me....i'm in a terrible slump & even if i knew the outcome, i probably couldn't pick the winner.

They have a good QB and the TE and RB are their leading receivers, what other weapons do you speak of? I would like to think Oregon would have enough speed on D to keep the TE and RB out of the backfield in check.....

what scares me from jumpin on Oregon is my under estimation of the BYU ground game...BYU line is pretty big.....i'm thinking under is the way to go here

So Cal
BYU is the better team. Oregon was overachivers TY... Should of had a lost vs Oklahoma.
IMO Mendenhall is a great coach. BYU has won 9 in a row, while Oregon has lost it's last 3 regular season games. BYU wins by a TD in a shoot-out

You're starting to make too many valid points -- not a fan of butting heads on a game with you.

Oregon has 5 'legit' wins this season & none vs a good team really.

A huge factor favoring BYU is that fact that they played in this Las Vegas Bowl last year & lost.

I dont have the exact #'s, but I know that when I team plays in the exact same bowl after losing the prior year they win an extremely high % of the time.

They know the surroundings. They have been through the exact routine. It is all fimiliar & they are extra motivated it seems.

The fact this game has put the teams in Vegas for a week, I wonder are the dudes from Oregon party & living up the life more in Sin City or the are those Moron boys???

I know it is the public & sucker play, but BYU wins this game by 2 or more TDs.

oregon receivers have an average 5 inch height advantage over the byu cbs, Gary Crowton was forced out of BYU in 2004 in an ugly split, will be foaming for revenge against mendenhall, & knows Mendenhall's tendencies as a head coach & d coordinator. I think people will be talking a/b John Beck for a long time in the NFL but Mt. West teams got killed by the Pac-10 again this yr... should be an entertaining football game

I agree with you it will be an entertaining game for sure.

I dont care what the rest of the MTW did against the Pac 10.

BYU played one PAC 10 team & lost by 3, far from getting killed.

Favorite Stat for this one. Turnover Margin.

BYU 4th in the Nation @ +1.17 Oregon 107th in the Nation @ -0.83 :scared

it's easy to hang onto the ball when you are playing the likes of utah state, sandiego state, unlv, wyoming, new mexico, colorado state, & utah. Don't forget, Oregon was in the BCS mix until the loss at USC, came out flat the next week against Arizona & lost the civil war by 2 points on a long fieldgoal w/ less than a minute left. This is a very good football team that should bounce back to some degree tonite. Don't discount Belotti, oregon's coach is a gamer.
