NEW YORK -- Rick DiPietro, was recalled by the New York Islanders on Saturday, a day after Garth Snow was suspended by the league.

The move was made shortly before the Islanders played at the New York Rangers. DiPietro was the backup to Chris Osgood.

DiPietro, who played 20 games last season with the Islanders, was 7-3-4 with a 2.17 goals-against average with Bridgeport of the AHL when he was recalled.

His career NHL mark is 3-15-1 with a 3.49 GAA. He was drafted by the Islanders in 2000.

Snow was suspended for two games Friday for trying to injure Tampa Bay's Sheldon Keefe. Snow was assessed a match penalty and ejected for scuffling with Keefe with 2:45 left in the Islanders' 7-2 victory Thursday night.

Snow also will miss Wednesday's game against the Ottawa Senators and is eligible to return Friday against Columbus.

The Rangers also had a new backup goalie, as Johan Holmqvist was recalled Friday from Hartford of the AHL. Jason LaBarbera was in that role, but he was returned to the minor league team so he could play Saturday night.

Dan Blackburn, just 19, made his eighth straight start in goal for the Rangers in place of Mike Richter, out indefinitely with post-concussion symptoms.
