I just heard Colin Cowherd mention that ND has turned down Alabama's request to play them and is going to discontinue the series with Michigan around 2011.....despite UofM's efforts to keep the series going. What a joke. Glad I'm not a ND fan.

Why should they play tough teams? They can beat up on cream puffs and make the bcs. Sometimes i wonder why texas scheduled ohio st those years because it ultimately hurt both teams more than helped.

The year Texas went into the Horseshoe and broke the Bucks 21 game home winning streak, they ended up as National Champions so I'm not sure how it hurt them.

Listening to ESPN can be hard on your wallet. The Michigan series isn't going away. The contract hasn't been renewed. Michigan doesn't want OSU/ND at home in the same year and away in the same year, so they want to rotate and ND doesn't want to because then they would have SC/Michigan at home and away in the same year. So . . . Notre Dame is replacing Michigan with Oklahoma for TWO years . . . We'll see what directional Michigan school the Wolverines pick up.

ND's going to a schedule that's 7 home, 4 away and 1 neutral (read: ND gets the take away from South Bend). With so many permanent away dates with USC, Navy, the Big 10 schools plus a contractual obligation with three Big East schools, a home and home with there's just no room to schedule unique opponents like Alabama anymore and it sucks. An SEC team wants to play somewhere besides the Southeast and there's no room. I'm sure Saban didn't know about this before he said it. :)

This is the way college football scheduling is right now and it sucks that ND is following instead of leading.

BTW, Good Luck with Appalachian State!!

the title of your thread is a joke. How will ND's schedule get worse when Oklahoma is replacing Michigan and Arizona State is replacing Michigan State?

Saban's comment about wanting to play Notre Dame was taken somewhat out of context. He was at a Rotary Club meeting and said that he would like to see Alabama's non-conference schedule get bulked up. He mentioned Notre Dame because he had done so while at Michigan State. I'm sure he realizes that schedules are made up years in advance. It's a shame that there can't be more inter-sectional games like back in the day.

I know that ND stated they are going to play twice in I think a four year period at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. They also recently announced they would be playing 3 Big East teams a season.

I know Alabama has a neutral site game with Florida State in Jacksonville this year (dubbed the River City Showdown) and played UCLA in 200 & 2001 and Oklahoma in 2002 & 2003. Georgia Tech and Penn State are future non-conference opponents for the Tide.

Michigan is looking at trading visits with either Tennessee, Georgia or Texas to fill the ND slot in 2011-2012. The ND series will resume but not annually. Hearing both sides would like to see a home and home every 4-5 years.

lets see, in the last few years they have had

usc
michigan
michigan state

ga tech
tennessee

how many top teams do you want them to schedule? how many does your average sec team schedule? None outside the conf and 3-4 within the conf.
