Moving forward.

Before I get started here, I am not a big supporter of Bush. He had his share of dumb mistakes when he was president. That being said "O" will not be able to blame Bush for his policy failure anymore in these next 4 years and things are about to get a lot worse for this country. Remember, at the end of 2008 we had a 10 trillion dollar debt and Obama said that if he couldn't cut the deficit he was not worthy of re-election. The debt went up by 7 trillion dollars, in just 4 years. The debt rose more than half of what it was under Bush after 8 years, in only 4 years. If Obama didn't cut the debt in the last 4 years he was president, what makes you think he will do it in another 4 years?

He turned NASA, our space program into a Muslim outreach and atmosphere climate monitoring center. Who in their right mind would turn a space program into a Muslim therapy feel good session? Isn't foreign affairs the state department's job? Let's not forget also that he invited the Muslim Brotherhood to the white house back in March and gave them millions of dollars. The same Muslim Brotherhood that helped found terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and Hezbollah. He supported the Arab Spring, which was actually a radical Islamic winter, rather than a rise to democracy. The Middle East is worse off now than it was after the dictators were overthrown in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and soon Syria and many others. Coptic Christians and other non-muslims in the majority of the Middle Eastern countries are being butchered and having their heads removed by the Islamists who came to power. Instead of helping the non-muslim minorities in the Middle East (who would be by large better and more productive citizens), he gives more fanatic radical Muslims refuge in our country even though half of them just collect welfare and call for America's destruction in their mosques. Those Radical Muslims that do work ask for ridiculous special privileges like prayer rooms, praying 5 times a day at work, gender segregation, and women wearing a burka or veil even though it is a safety hazard at some jobs. If employers don't comply, they get sued by CAIR, another organization who secretly seeks the destruction of our constitution. These ridiculous special privileges and lawsuits add unnecessary costs to employers. To the Radical muslims who want sharia law and don't want to follow our laws, I say that if they don't want to follow the laws of this country like everyone else has to do then those crazed fanatics should go back to the mess they created in the Middle East if they want Islamic law.

Obama was covering for and still refuses to fire Eric Holder over the Fast and Furious debacle which killed one of our border guards and is still killing millions of Mexican citizens. After our ambassador to Libya was murdered, Hillery and Obama went on TV and blamed a movie for the attack on our Embassy, even though the Libya's leader said that the attack was planned ahead of time. Obama and Hillary then changed their story a month later, saying that the attack was planned. Even though C-130 gunships where in the area, he refused to give the order to use them to help and watched the brave Marines and our ambassador die. The worst part is this is just a tip of the iceburg and the mountain of lies does not end there. He has not been truthful to the American people about his real agenda since day 1. Others in the Federal Government, like Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano, are just as guilty for Obama's treason for helping him cover up the truth and should be brought to justice. The George Soros MSM (funded by George Soros and Saudi Arabia, which they own 20% of shares in fox news.) media is also complicit by refusing to inform the public about this treachery and has just become another bunch of propaganda spewing, spin-doctors. They too should be brought to justice. Make no mistake, Obama is out to destroy this country not help it. Why go to all that trouble to cover up his past? Why did Obama use the slogan "Forward" in his campaign, the same slogan used by Vladimir Lenin in 1917? People need to do some research on Obama instead of just blindly following him because of his democrat label. Watch Obama 2016.

That being said I am an independent voter, and I wish we could have had better candidates in both parties or even a 3rd or 4th major party. These questions need to be asked and the truth exposed. A lot of people are intentionally being kept in the dark.

Face it, he's a moron when it comes to national politicians. If you watch the 25 worst presidential blunders in history at www.nowobama.com, you'll understand why he is the first president in 50 years to not release his college grades from the three colleges he attended.

To 70 million Americans: "we have these ships, aircraft carriers that planes can land on, and we have these ships that can go under water, submarines". Jee's no kiddin.

Promised dozens of times to cut the national debt of $10 trillion by 50% in his first term, a debt which took 50 years to accumulate, and instead he added $6 trillion to the $10= now $16 trillion. One more term doing that and we as a strong country are history.

Promised dozens of times he would close Quantanomo Bay Prison immediately upon becoming president. Still open.

Said a hundred times in 2007, if elected he's bring all our troops home within two years. A few months later wins the Noble Peace Prize, then a few months after that sends an additional 10,000 troops to Afghanistan, then a year later sends an additional 33,000 troops to Afghanistan. Since becoming president (loose term) 1,400 young American soldiers have been killed in that war. Noble Peach Prize?

Promised a hundred times the healthcare negotiations would be televised on CPAN and people could watch both parties and see what each party was saying? Not televised. No reporters were allowed inside the conference room. No Republicans were allowed to even be a part of the negotiations.

I could go on and on with many of these but worse yet is the fact that not a single ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN reporter asked him about all these promises as if they never existed.

I'm in a much better mood tonight also Shawn...so I won't swear at you either. Although, none of it is nonsense, why don't you prove it wrong? :moon:

What that he is not a muslim?

I really do not care what religion he is. They are all nonsense.

I in no way think he has done a great job. I have felt from before the 08 election that he would basically be just like Bush.

I just do not believe why you would waste time with the stupid muslim angle. All I heard was how he is a socialist and this would become some socialist state ( did not and will never happen) or how he is muslim and will be sworn in on the koran and turn this country into a muslim state.

None of that shit will ever happen. He has four years to turn shit around and hopefully he can do it and the republicans will actually try and help this time. They refused to work with him with hopes he would not get reelected. Now maybe for once both sides can act like adults and get shit done, but of course that happening has the same chance of happening as all the socialist muslim b.s.

How Are Laws Made?

Laws begin as ideas. First, a representative sponsors a bill. The bill is then assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended. If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on. Again, a simple majority (51 of 100) passes the bill. Finally, a conference committee made of House and Senate members works out any differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. The resulting bill returns to the House and Senate for final approval. The Government Printing Office prints the revised bill in a process called enrolling. The President has 10 days to sign or veto the enrolled bill.

The Republican House passed legislation that Democrat Leader Harry Reid sat on, but the Republicans are the problem.

Calling Out Harry Reid

Everyday Congressmen and Senators get onto the floor of their respective chambers and give speeches on different topics. Then they'll gather in the rotunda to give news conferences blaming each other for the issue at hand doesn't get resolved. Of course now that it is campaign season, they give broader speeches, and at times their speech has nothing to do with the issue at hand for which they were supposed to be addressing. I want to make it clear that both sides are guilty of this, but am only looking to address one issue here, and that is who is actually obstructing more?

Obviously your answer to that last question will depend on the party you back. Democrats will of course blame Republicans, and Republicans will of course blame Democrats. Well the answer really is they both do it, in the last couple of years one side has risen to that occasion and has successfully put the blame on the other, so much so that many actually believe. But with a little digging and a true look at the actual numbers, a pattern emerges.

The President and Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, on an almost daily basis lay heavy blame on the feet of the Republicans. Is there any truth to it? Some, but mostly not. Now both sides don't agree on an issue, they blame each other because the bill doesn't pass. The day of the compromise seems to be extinct. It seems they both draw line in the sand, they both stick to their guns, and nothing happens.

There are tactics that both sides use in this war of words. The biggest word that you hear that comes from the Democrats is filibuster. It's an interesting word has been around forever. Now since I believe the word filibuster is tossed around so much, I believe the Democrats have forgotten what the word actually means. So just for clarity here is what it means:

Filibuster

An action such as a prolonged speech that obstructs progress in a legislative assembly while not technically contravening the required?

Act in an obstructive manner in a legislature, esp. by speaking at inordinate length.

The record for the filibuster is held by Strom Thurmond who spoke for over 24 hours trying to stall the civil rights bill. In more modern times, Democrats and Republicans alike have filibustered, generally for not more than a few hours. There is a way to end a filibuster and it is called cloture.

Cloture

A procedure for ending a debate in taking a vote.

We have heard many times over the last two years the Democrats especially Harry Reid accusing the Republicans for filibustering almost everything. There are publications from the left-wing media also stating that filibusters are at an all-time high. The problem is that there are no records kept on the subject of filibustering. Traditionally the number of cloture motions has been the guide as to how many filibusters there were. The thing is that cloture's are now being used as a tool to stop debate altogether. The numbers show that during the 111th Congress and the 112 Congress, both under Democratic control, cloture motions have gone to the roof to all-time highs. During the 111th Congress 189 time?s cloture motions were filed, 186 were filed by the same Senator, Harry Reid. The other three were filed by three different Senators.

Here is now where things will get interesting. Of the 189 cloture motions filed by Harry Reid, 186 were filed on the same day, actually within minutes of, the Bill being presented to the floor. When a Bill is presented to the Senate, it has to go through to readings before debate can begin. Invoking cloture at the same time the Bill is presented to the Senate floor in essence locks out any possibility of debate over the bill and forces the vote to be on the Bill as it is. There's no opportunity to discuss amending or changing for the better any Bill once cloture is invoked.

Let?s take a look at one bill in particular since it is in the headlines, S. 2343 Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act of 2012. The Bill was introduced on the Senate floor on April 26, 2012; a cloture motion was filed by Harry Reid also on April 26, 2012. On April 26, 2012 the Bill received its first reading and was put on the calendar for May 16, 2012. On May 16, 2012 there was a motion to proceed on S. 2343. Now before we go further about what happened on May 16, 2012, please look at the short video below of a press conference on May 8, 2012.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GKQlQWmIPNw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Please take note of the date on the video, May 8, 2012. We already know the Bill was introduced on April 26 and was set for the calendar date May 16, 2012. But yet for a piece of legislation that did not get to the floor till May 16, Democrats are already accusing Republicans of filibustering the Bill, nothing like jumping the gun. The video above is a press conference held on the rotunda after the morning?s businesses on the Senate floor. But while on the Senate floor Harry Reid while giving a general speech on different bills, he made mention of S. 2343. Harry Reid said on the floor "the Republicans are poised to filibuster the bill". He also went on to say "this bill should not be victim to partisan politics. If the Republicans have a better idea they need to bring it up we're all ears". An interesting quote because 1, Harry Reid is doing nothing but playing partisan politics on the issue and 2, he invoked cloture so there's no possibility of debate or amending the bill.

Back to May 16, the bill has come up for motion to proceed. That basically means the majority and the minority leaders get between five and ten minutes to make their recommendations on an up or down vote. But Harry Reid decided he would rather do something else. From Harry Reid's speech:

?Madame President, it is almost universally acknowledged that Republican obstructionism has reached new heights in the Senate. There are separate articles written about it. Democrats would have to break a filibuster, I guess, to declare the sky blue or the earth round and passing the most common sense and consensus legislation could take weeks or months. So the mile-long list to do we cannot afford to waste any time. Yet today Republicans will force the Senate to waste a day on a series of political show votes. We will spend hours debating and voting on a handful of nonbinding budgets even though we already have a legally budget in place. If one of the Republicans budgets passed, which it won't, by law it is nonbinding because we already have a budget.

The Senate could spend the day passing tax cuts for small businesses that grow and hire people or even legislation to keep the FDA running. We could be considering the paycheck fairness act; ensuring American women receive equal pay for equal work. We could be debating cyber security legislation; the Pentagon says that's the number one issue facing this country today. We could also be working on a farm bill that could save the country $23 billion and reduce our debt by that much. We could be projecting 7 million students from rate hikes on their federal loans we could even move a series of appropriation bills to implement the budget we have already enacted. Instead we will debate and vote on a series of stunts budgets.

Republicans can say over and over that they are forcing votes on for Republican budgets today because Democrats failed to pass their own budget. That couldn't be further from the truth. But I guess those Republicans have developed a case of amnesia. Why else would they walk around Washington claiming we do not have a budget?

Democrats agree that across-the-board cuts to domestic spending and defense programs aren't the ideal way to solve our nation's fiscal problems. Unfortunately Republicans refuse to be reasonable. They refused to raise even a penny of new revenue or ask million asked to contribute their fair share to help reduce our debt. The time for show votes is over now it is time for the Senate to get back to work putting Americans back to work."

Where do we begin, Harry Reid speech was extremely disingenuous. About the only thing he said that was true was that they were articles written about Republican obstructionism, but of course the written by the left-wing media.

Now bear in mind, during this time period that Harry Reid was speaking, he was supposed to be speaking about S. 2343, Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act of 2012. He did mention it in one sentence but of course that point it was quite comical.

Harry Reid starts this speech upset that the Republicans are trying to get a budget passed. He even insisted several times that there was a budget in place. How delusional is this man, the Democrats that desperate to win this presidential election that they are just going to make things up as they go? There was a vote last week on the President?s budget in both the House and the Senate. The combined vote was 0-535, a most embarrassing defeat of a budget ever. Not one Democrat, not even the most dedicated, devout one voted for it. Since nobody voted for it, how can there be a budget? Harry Reid has the right to not agree with any of the four Republican proposals for a budget, but it is misleading to tell the public there is a budget and Republicans are wasting everybody's time on useless nonbinding votes. Because in fact, if one of those proposals were to pass, that would be the budget providing of course the president signed it when it was presented his desk.

Next Harry Reid goes on to a tirade about all the things the semi-could be doing instead of debating and voting on the budget. Now again keep in mind he supposed to be talking about the interest rate on student loans, the budget is not even on the floor for discussion. And yet one of the items he brings up saying they should be addressing was in fact the student loan rate hike. How hard you laughing right now, or are you thinking just how pathetic this system has become. Here is a Senator who is supposed to be talking about the student loan rate hike, and is complaining that he should be talking about the student loan rate hike.

I think I need to wrap my head in duct tape before it explodes, because we are not done yet. But has to be the highlight of statements from Harry Reid during the speech was the following ?Democrats agree that across-the-board cuts to domestic spending and defense programs are not the ideal way to solve our nation's fiscal problem". Yet they're looking to get the defense program. Nothing like admitting what you're doing is wrong yet you are going to do it anyway.

Now I could keep going listing bill after bill after bill. For example I could list S. 2230 paying a fair share act of 2012 otherwise known as the Buffet rule. The Bill was brought to the Senate floor on March 29, 2012, Harry Reid invoked cloture on March 29, 2012. So once more there is a Bill that will get no discussion, no debate, no amendments, it has to be voted on as is. And because the Democrats do not have enough votes to pass it, the bill just sits there, waiting.

My American View

It's really easy for Harry Reid to make the Republicans look bad. They produce bills that Harry Reid tables and they never get to the floor for debate or vote. Are you aware that Harry Reid has tabled 2, 748 bills set forth by Republicans? The Democrats can sit there and say that all the Republicans do is complain and do nothing. It's hard to show what accomplishment when you are bills presented die upon arrival. It's even harder to try and fight the American people when the Bill comes to the floor and gets immediate cloture. That in essence kills everything, there is no discussion, no opportunities to amended to be better, just pass it and if you don't we blame you.

S. 2343 Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike of 2012 is one such bill. Both sides of the aisle are in 100% agreement that the student loan interest rate should stay low. This should be a no-brainer, and if you look at the title of the bill you would think so. But what the Democrats don't tell you as they blame the Republicans for not voting for it, is that there is a section, or amendment, in the Bill that raises taxes on small businesses. The same small businesses that Harry Reid speech said that the Republicans were wasting time talking about the budget when they could have been talking about tax breaks for businesses. Once more Harry Reid was extremely disingenuous. He knows perfectly well that there of tax increases in that Bill on small businesses, yet he claims he wants to talk about cutting taxes to the small businesses.

Let me make a suggestion here. Since everybody is in agreement that they want to keep the interest rates low on student loans, how about we let that stand in the Bill all by itself. Remove the tax hikes from the bill that has nothing to do with student loans and vote again.

I don't know about you guys, but I have come to the conclusion that Harry Reid is suffering from a case of the full of shitness. He invokes Cloture, tables bills, Hey Harry, who is the real obstructionist here?

These phony stories, rhetoric, attacks, and all the like need to come to an end. This bill S 2343 could be a good start getting Congress to move in a positive direction. They don't need to tackle big legislations, no reason to make big moves, no reason to add ridiculous amendments that either side knows will kill the bill. Take the issue of student interest rates, and student interest rates alone and just deal with that, no appropriations, no earmarks, no taxes, nothing. Take small steps, at this point that is the best way for progress. Remember what they say when the question is asked ?how was Rome built? Brick by brick my friends, brick by brick.

That is my American View what is yours

Still with this stuff.. Elections over Hedge may as well move on and stope dwelling over it.
