I finished reading the book "Return To Glory", an inside look at Tyrone Willingham's amazing first season at ND by Allan Grant.

While I was reading the chapter on last year's USC game I finally came to the final page and read a piece I am sure you would like to read. It seems that Ty has no enemies and pretty much gets along with everyone, not a grudge type of coach but that changed last year against USC. This will be bulletin board material all week, guaranteed. Just like Georgia had one thing on their board last week about Clausen from last year's game. Same scenario here. Here is the last page of the chapter.

With less than five minutes left in the game and the score 44-13, things got ugly in a personal way. On second-and- 13, Trojans safety Troy Polamalu roared through the guard-center gap untouched and dropped Holiday for a nine-yard sack. On the sideline, Willingham stood, arms folded, motionless and expressionless. USC had not only thrown 2 passes on their previous series, but with a 31-point lead, they had just sent their best defensive player on a blitz. After the play, Polamalu took himself from the game--and act Pete Carroll called "cute." Willingham stood and watched. He didn't say anything, he didn't yell or scream, he just watched.

Back in September, only days after his first game, Willingham had already had his eye on USC. He knew what that game meant to Notre Dame, knew the depth of the rivalry, and knew win-loss records against bitter rivals are often the benchmark of a coach's career and may determine a coach's success at any school.

After the game, he would shake Pete Carroll's hand and look him in the eye, but he wouldn't say anything to him. And the next morning, Willingham would get up and return tothe Coliseum and sit in a director's chair to tape a special guest segment of Live with Regis and Kelly. He would calmly talk about the game, listen to Regis say the Irish played too much zone defense, and laugh at his jokes. But for the moment, Willingham just watched USC and let the image of them celebrating burn into his head. He'd see them again the next October. And he'd remember.

Well next October is here and I will gladly take the 10 pts.
I grabbed it yesterday just as soon as it came out. It is now down to 8 in some places. Get on this now.

Plays and analysis to come in a bit.

nice read ND

nice read ND

I know he wants this one, but so did Bowden vs Canes ... signs of life finally for ND vs Pitt which gives your bet new hope IMO, but its a tricky one here ... ND has played well once now, their rally vs WSU still was quite fortunate as I watched game i never felt ND was better ... TY is a great coach but Carroll isnt a slouch ... your 10 pts might be needed ... Game will turn in 2nd half, who can keep edge, who has more stamina, who wants it more ... If Irish remain focused well into 3rd then I give them great shot to win, but USC has shown incredible 2nd half performances over L2y and it could well happen again ...

gl, no play for me

Played these yesterday at Pinnacle when the lines came out. Now I have the time to do a bit of a write-up for each. Here we go.

ND +10***
All you have to do is read my article above from the Return To Glory book. On top of that I really believe USC is a little overrated and are getting too many pts. on the road. This line was -3.5 for USC a month ago. ND used the bye week to their advantage. They made nice adjustments to the blocking part of their running game. The one thing that jumped out at me was how ND did not have QB Quinn throw the ball much. Sure the running game was working but the game before all they did was throw the ball. I truly believe ND did not want to tip their hand with their new passing package on offense with USC coming up. Lets face it, for 6 straight weeks a Top 10 team has lost outright to a non-ranked team. It could very well happen again this week. ND has confidence going into this game and I believe they will use the TE alot against USC and use short passes, screens or hitches. Damn, Stanford actually did this alot against USC this past Sat. USC has a few holes on D and anyone watching USC the last 3 games would have seen it. Not saying ND wins but they give USC everything they can handle. The one match-up I worry about is Mike Williams at WR. ND can't use Vontez Duff on him even though he is their best cover guy as he gives 7 inches to him. Grab this now before it drops anymore.

Arizona St. -5**
ASU finally broke out this past Saturday and I liked what saw. The ASU defense has held them in games over the last 3 losses prior to Saturday's win but they were on the field too much and broke down in the 4th Q. Now with both sides of the ball getting the job done I really think ASU gets at least 10 pt win against UNC. Tar Heels defense has been suspect all year and when the total comes out on this game I will jump on the over.......as long as it is not too high.

Michigan St. +7**(-125)(bough the pt.)
MSU has such a balanced offense that I think the Gophers will have problems stopping the Spartans. MSU plays on turf so being in the Dome won't hurt them. QB Smoker has played incredibly smart all year and could be the best QB in the Big Ten. Minny offense is too one dimensional and will struggle against a balanced MSU defense. MSU will control the clock and might get the outright win.

Texas -16*
Will the Longhorns rebound from a devastating loss? Most likely as Texas loves to pound the weaker in the BIG 12. After their loss to Arkansas they went out and blasted Rice. Young will start at QB and we all know how Iowa St. has problems with mobile QB's. This will be Young's coming out party. Texas by 21.

I will add the T.Tech/Okl. St. over and the ASU/UNC once the totals come out as I am sure they will get bet up.

GLTA!

Adding these from today's lines at Pinnacle.

LSU -3**(-140)(bought the 1.5 pts.)
Tigers came out sloppy off their bye week, something Saban was worried about. LSU defense should be able to contain a one dimensional offense that the Gamecocks run. As long Mauck brings it on Saturday unlike 2 days ago I feel LSU gets the job done on the road. I believe the LSU WR's will SC all sorts of problems. This will be the one mismatch and it will do in SC.

Kansas St. -18*
Wildcats love to blow out teams at home and the Bufs are going to get it handed to them. Their defense is weak and this one could get ugly early. We all know Snyder loves to run it up at home and it won't be any different Saturday. KSU BIG!

Colorado St. -5**(Thursday night)
Rams have finally shifted their offense into high gear. It took alot longer than most thought with a solid offense returning Van Pelt and getting RB Houston from Colorado on a transfer. AF has been inconsistent on both sides of the ball. I don't think they have the athletes on defense to compete with the Rams offense. AF will get their share of pts. but it won't be enough. Rams will dominate the line of scrimmage.

Houston -5*
Memphis is just not that good on the road. Cougars will present the Tigers defense with many problems by stretching the field. Tigers should have a bit of a letdown after their big game against Miss. St. I think this line should be a little higher.

Miss. St. +22*
Tigers have had two great wins over Arkansas and Tennessee. Prime spot for a letdown as they will do just enough for the win. Who knows, back door cover. I had to bite on the 22.

Line movements from yesterday to today:
Marshall was -29, now -30.5
Arkansas was -6.5 now -4.5
FSU was -7 now -8
Okl. was -27 now 25.5

Nice job Horns!

Thanks for the ND info, I hate betting on them, but will put a unit on them. We seem to be thinking alike this week.

I am making ASU a very strong play. The more I look at this game, I can not see UNC winning or coming that close.

Good week to play games early, I think many of these lines will agressively more against you. I am playing my slate this evening.

Good Luck!

Adding:

Missouri -27*(-130)(bought the pt.)

Wish I had of got it yesterday at -27. Letdown and the fact Missouri has the confidence they need to stay inside the number.

Looked at the strength of schedule as everyone is telling in their e-mails how USC has beat some teams real bad. So I took a look.

USC has played 6 teams with a combined record of 18-18. They beat highly ranked Auburn but that was it in terms of quality wins. They lost to a 3-4 team in Cal. They beat BYU, Hawaii, ASU and Stanford.......please, nothing special.

ND has played 5 teams with a combined record of 23-7. They beat ranked Wash. St. and Pitt. Both in the Top 20. Lost bad to Michigan, lost by 6 to MSU and lost by 13 to Purdue.

Lets see how USC plays on the road at ND. They are the middle of 4 out of 5 on the road.
