The Cats are at Madison Square Garden for an 8:30 tip with St Johns. The line is Nova-4/145.5.
Nova beat St Johns by 11 about 10 days ago in Villanova. Since then the Red Storm lost a close one to Providence then won on the road vs. Georgetown and Butter. Nova since then lost at Marquette and beat UCONN. BUT?none of this matters as it?s all about ankles. For VILLANOVA, Justin Moore sat out last game with a sprained ankle and Colin Gillespie sprained his vs UCONN. ADD IN Bryan Antoine who is recovering from a sprained ankle and the Cats are in dire straights vs a St Johns club who presses you from the time you get off the bus. HOLD ON though!
Posh Alexander, the most ferocious of the St Johns defenders twisted his ankle late in his last game.
So, we have a Wildcat team who likely will be sitting out it?s two highest scorers and best ball handlers. Their 4th guard, Antoine will play but how effective he?ll be is a question mark. And, this is a club with little depth. For the Red Storm, Alexander may try to play but no way he?ll play a lot or be as effective as he usually is.
What Will Happen: St Johns relies on Julian Champagnie who has shown signs of reverting back to a scoring machine in last two games. No doubt they will pressure Nova?s guards regardless of who plays. Soriano has gone 12-12 in last two games, they may feed him more. They will definitely challenge the Nova guards to see if they can foul them out.
The Cats will slow the game down to a crawl. Daniels and Arcidiacono will do the bulk of the ball handling and work hard to break the press. Nova has no choice but to rely on Samuels and Dixon offensively. They also have no choice but to attack the rim as they realistically have one player who can shoot the 3 (Daniels).
My Play: Under 145.5. I have no clue where the offense will come from on the Nova side. An ineffective Alexander for St Johns is also big offensively.
