So with the bad economic situation everywhere, and definitely in the Detroit Metro Area, I have a question because we seem to be having some serious problems here

Is anywhere else in the country attempting to get rid of the city Police and Fire Departments??

All around here the Cities have "no money" because they pay everyone out and apparently the only way to recoup is to make the citizens unsafe. It's been bad around here, esp in the D, for a long while but now you basically have no chance of having police come to your house unless there is actual gunfire. And if you are having any kind of medical emergency you are better off getting in your car and speeding to the hospital yourself. It is absolutely insane. The worst part is people are so desperate they are turning to violence, I've started to see the gunshot wound victims in the er a lot more than in the past. Now with fewer cops out, I can only predict things will get a lot worse.

So with all of this going on and home invasions on the rise, increased in muggings, and car-jackings becoming frequent, I feel the need to get my CCW. Hopefully this is only happening here, but I'm curious if it's happening anywhere else

Yep happening in a few other places--

The Key to remember in case you think about moving--

--the severity is directly proportional to the voting demographics of area.

13th and 14th districts of Mich (Detriot)
-both voted 85% O in 2008 and Kerry 82% in 2004

Nola is the place to be, nick. Katrina removed a ton of riff raff. Jobs are available. Cost of living is low. Music and food are excellent. Plus, you can bring your woman:toast:

Be well, bro:toast:

Royal Oak, Michigan, a Detroit Suburb
They aren't even asking for money or saying they are going to raise taxes. They are just straight up saying, we've decided to cut fire and police. One city handed out pink slips to the ENTIRE fire department. Basically saying, hopefully the neighboring cities will help.....hopefully.

its insanity. The other problem is a lot of people are walking away from their homes, so less money is coming in. it's an even circle. I figured we were the only area that is going after these two departments, just curious

I live in the Birmingham, Royal Oak area, two very nice suburbs of Detroit, hardly any crime, great nightlife, clean and safe. I lived in detroit for many years, but finally had to get out. Check out the northern suburbs, their very nice.

Nick: You should be looking at moving out of that state, not just Royal Oak. Too many other opportunities out there and too many nice places to live to stay there.

Nick are you talking about Royal Oak or Detroit. You make it sound like the Wild West. Naturally when a population goes down the numbers police & fire should go down. This has been a scare tactic from them that they will not be able to protect us , cut the fat out just like every business in the country. I am in Detroit neighborhoods & business 3-4 times a week with no problems ( don't have a gun ). Stop wining get a gun if it makes you feel better GL

i don`t think he`s whining....it`s theee most economically depressed big city city in the usa...this is a few years old,but i doubt it`s changed much...

Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list)

Buffalo, NY (2nd)
Cincinnati, OH (3rd)?
Cleveland, OH, (4th)?
Miami, FL (5th)
St. Louis, MO (6th)?.
El Paso, TX (7th)
Milwaukee, WI (8th)?
Philadelphia, PA (9th)?
Newark, NJ (10th)?

they all have some things in common...

The suburbs of Detroit. Allen Park and Taylor both. Feel free to call my friends that have lost their jobs and tell them that it's "just a scare tactic".

Like I said, I see first hand, more and more people coming in with GSW's and hear about people having their cars stolen or shit broken into. Just sayin, it's getting shitty around here. I know everywhere has it's bad areas, but when the bad areas are moving down into your section of town it should make you become a little more alert. A cop was shot in his home on the other side of Southfield and Outer drive from us.

I knew you made it up. Next time that you have a made up list of poverty areas, make sure you use some towns in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana or people will think that you're lying.

Just a tip. Take it for what it's worth.

And Nick, Move to Chicago where the bright people of your state move to in droves.
