So with the bad economic situation everywhere, and definitely in the Detroit Metro Area, I have a question because we seem to be having some serious problems here

Is anywhere else in the country attempting to get rid of the city Police and Fire Departments??

All around here the Cities have "no money" because they pay everyone out and apparently the only way to recoup is to make the citizens unsafe. It's been bad around here, esp in the D, for a long while but now you basically have no chance of having police come to your house unless there is actual gunfire. And if you are having any kind of medical emergency you are better off getting in your car and speeding to the hospital yourself. It is absolutely insane. The worst part is people are so desperate they are turning to violence, I've started to see the gunshot wound victims in the er a lot more than in the past. Now with fewer cops out, I can only predict things will get a lot worse.

So with all of this going on and home invasions on the rise, increased in muggings, and car-jackings becoming frequent, I feel the need to get my CCW. Hopefully this is only happening here, but I'm curious if it's happening anywhere else

I know a lot of the country has been hurt the last few years but honestly the DFW area hasn't seen a lot of it. At least from my point of view it hasn't. Maybe otherse will say differently but it's business as usual around here.

of course there are many, many less significant programs that could be cut or elimimnated instead of police and fire dept personnel....

but,can you think of a better way to coerce hard working, tax paying citizens like yourself to fork up more?...to invest more deeply into the big government meme than to cut the most essential institutions ?.....

obviously their point is being made, judging by your post....it hurts...

in the short term it will probably work quite well...but as the dwindling tax base(take a look at the census figures for many depressed liberal big cities and states) continues to dwindle....when more and more hard working stiffs like yourself eventually reach their limit and decide to flee, the local and state governments will run out of people to gouge to take care of the rest...

it`s a system that will inevitably fail...and we`re watching it fail in real time...

it`s a strategy.....and it works......for a while...

Forget the dwindling tax base....
How many fatherless kids do you know?

A while back, I was in an apartment where I witnessed with my own eyes and heard with my own ears a sixteen year old say to his grandmother, "Woman, make me some eggs."

He's fatherless and his mother is alcoholic.

When the calamity occurs, it will be swift and the devastation will be widespread.

Ephesians 5:16 ~ "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

They aren't even asking for money or saying they are going to raise taxes. They are just straight up saying, we've decided to cut fire and police. One city handed out pink slips to the ENTIRE fire department. Basically saying, hopefully the neighboring cities will help.....hopefully.

its insanity. The other problem is a lot of people are walking away from their homes, so less money is coming in. it's an even circle. I figured we were the only area that is going after these two departments, just curious

From what I understand, Costa Mesa, Ca. is doing something similar. Don't fret, the decay is spreading everywhere...just occuring at different rates. Before long, every city nationwide will be caught in the vortex. The deplorable conditions in Detroit are nearing total decline. Downtown Pittsburgh has more than it's fair share of vacant buildings.

A 45 year old woman should be able to make him some eggs.

Not funny.

Try again.

Ok, I will.

What did you do about this when you witnessed it?

I mean, as a man?

seems odd(and a little scary) that the state and/or local govt is cutting essential services without there being some sort of revenue issues....

might be time to head for greener pastures(for the sake of your future family)...

YYZ... I know you are the "smart ass" in here... but that was a good one.
I'm guessing he said a prayer for him? Or maybe he made the eggs instead?
