I would vote against yellowtail for a beginner for sure. And uni?? :nono:

I didn't recommend either to him, the yellowtail was in response to what hamachi meant, and i told him once he gets going the last thing to try is the uni.

The hamachi (yellowtail) we get is super mild...no fishy taste at all? The only raw fish I ever eat is tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. I just try to avoid too much tuna because of the heavy metal content.

If I had to recommend one roll to start with, it would be the spicy tuna roll, but if you came and ate at our sushi restaurant here in Denver, it would be the jalapeno hamachi.

Yellowtail that I have eaten was pretty strong!

I have been eating sushi for 25 years now and as some have seen here I can almost eat my weight in it... eat 1-2 times a week so over 1000 times now so anything you want to know just ask... have turned prolly 100 or more peeps on to it... you are starting off good and next try like the sushi appetizer to get a good mix of the different fish and just keep trying things that taste good ... wish I could afford to eat everyday but I like too much :scared

Ask for a piece of tuna sashimi.

It is amazing. I have the tuna lovers usually once a week. Spicy tuna rolls and sashimi tuna.

Yellow tail is awesome as well.

Sashimi for me.

spicy tako is a fav of mine, though the texture can turn some off.

our local place we order from most often has a sapporo maki roll that is usually a hit if we are eating with people that don't have sushi much. It's crab, shrimp and scallion in spicy mayo.
