Jay Cuntler Is 1-7 vs the pack 14% winning percentage . Only thing going for this Tomato Can is Clay M Is out
Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman never flinched when he named Jay Cutler his starting quarterback for Sunday?s crucial game against the Green Bay Packers.
That?s a little surprising based on Cutler?s dismal career track record against the Packers.
Since getting traded to the Bears prior to the 2009 season, Cutler has faced the Packers eight times and has a horrid 1-7 record, 54.8 passer rating and 53.6 completion percentage.
There?s something about the Packers that brings out the worst in Cutler, who is completing his eighth NFL season and fifth with the Bears.
?We?ve had some really tight games with them that have kind of gone our way,? said Packers defensive line coach Mike Trgovac. ?I don?t think it?s a matter of (Cutler) blowing things or anything like that. I just think some of the games went our way.?
In eight games against the Packers with Cutler at quarterback, the Bears have averaged just 13.25 points with Cutler throwing 17 interceptions and just eight touchdown passes.
Members of the Packers? coaching staff on Friday were reluctant to talk about their success against Cutler.
But the numbers don?t lie. Cutler has an 84.4 career passer rating, while against the Packers his statistics are abysmal. In the eight Packers-Bears games Cutler has played in, his passer ratings have been 43.2, 74.9, 82.5, 43.5, 31.8, 78.9, 28.2 and 72.5.
When asked this week to explain his lack of success against the Packers, Cutler replied: ?We weren?t as good on offense.?
By comparison, Aaron Rodgers in those eight games posted ratings of 92.0, 88.9, 92.5, 89.7, 55.4, 111.4, 142.7, 85.3 and 116.8.
Based on recent history, another Rodgers-Cutler duel on Sunday appears to be a clear mismatch in favor of the Packers.
