The National Bowling Championships are Feb 28th- July 12th, 2014 at the National Bowling Stadium. Does anyone have any input on where to stay, what to do, etc. PaSprint has been out there before to bowl but just looking for any other help before I start planning this trip. Not sure when we are going yet- is there a better time than others during that time period? We have to be registered by Dec. 15th 2013 so we have a little time yet. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :0008

Natioanl Bowling Stadium is located in the downtown area of Reno.

Hotel/Casinos recommended:
El Dorado 0.1 miles from NBS

Silver Legacy 0.2 miles

Peppermill 2.3 miles

Grand Sierra Resort and Casino 2.5 miles

Atlantis Casino 3.1 miles

Nugget 4.4 miles

Not recommended:
Sands
Circus Circus

Good accomodations, resonably priced, good restuarants

Average temp. around mid 40's

Hope this helps.

I'll check back later tonight PA and throw in my .02.

You may want to start checking out Silver Legacy and figure on that. It's the perfect location, plenty of restaurants and a huge casino!

I'm staying there again this year after trying Atlantis out last year. Nothing better than being right there a block from the Bowling Stadium. Other casinos are connected as well on the inside so if it's freezing out side you won't have to bother with the weather. It's a pretty nice place, no doubt.

As Hamster said, stay away from The Sands(what a shit-hole) and CC. Brutal!

34th year bowling in this thing! I swear it's in Reno every year! At least Vegas is getting in the mix soon!

What Nole said. Get a room at the silver legacy and be done with it. Walking distance to the stadium and there is really nothing else in downtown Reno so the three attached casinos is where to stay, to gamble and to eat, although you have to check out the Cal-Neva if you have never been there before....:mj07:
If you are into classic cars, check out the museum down along the Truckee River--an amazing collection and several one of a kind in the world cars.

We bowl April 7th and 8th and are flying into and out of Vegas and only going up to Reno for the two days of bowling--gotta love Southwest flying between Vegas and Reno hourly almost all day long...:0074
Once you've been up to Tahoe a few times and Reno too many times to count to bowl, there just isn't much to do, so we are spending the rest of the week in Vegas--nicer golf courses--its still cold in the mountains in early April-- and hey, its Vegas, baby.....:0074

I love the Cal-Neva. Reno's best bet! My formative gambling years were spent at their tables or upstairs loitering about the Sportsbook. I make sure to spend a few hours there every trip to Reno.
What a dump. :00hour

You flying back to Vegas after singles and doubles on the 8th? I fly in on the 8th and bowl the 9th and 10th. Would be great to roll the dice and have a few cocktails with you!

We fly back to Vegas at 620 PM on Tuesday after singles and doubles. Don't remember what time we roll, but if its our usual times we are done mid-afternoon. If thats the case this year, it might well be straight to the airport from the stadium.
What time do you get in on the 8th?
If its at all possible to meet up with you, Nole, I'll make it happen....:toast:

And you have never set foot in the Cal-Neva?

Dude.

And I prefer the term shit hole to dump, as dump gives the impression that there are some redeeming qualities to the place, and the Cal-Neva has none....:mj07:
Best sports book in downtown Reno by far---last year the clerks in the horse book were throwing drink tickets at us with every bet we made....:toast:
The 3 dollar blackjack and a fresh drink every 20 minutes can't be beat, either.....:0074

Well crap! I'm an idiot(as usual)! As soon as I saw "Tuesday" in your reply I knew I fucked up! We bowl the 10th and 11th, Thursday and Friday.

My bad brother. Next time for sure!

Normally we hang around for a few days after our shifts, and we are this year, too. Just doing it in Vegas instead of Reno.
We moved our dates to the first Monday and Tuesday in April last year as those are better dates for a couple of the guys so if you always go on the same days, we will make it happen in 2015....:0074

699 last night---bummed about missing a 700, but we took 6 points from the 1st place team and moved into 1st place, so it's all good...

Staying after in Vegas might be a bit more exciting then staying after in Reno.....just by a smidge! LOL

El Paso next year. That should be interesting. Never been there or near there.

Right now the plan is to bowl and then head over to San Antonio for a couple of days. Wifey's been wanting to go there for a long time.

Our league is in quarters. A team can only win 1 quarter and then there is a 4-team roll-off at the end of the season for some cash. We're in 1st place in the 2nd quarter, comfortably. This is probably the best team I've ever been on in all my years of bowling.

Get that 700 next week!

I've shot 4 700s in the 12 weeks we've bowled this season and now averaging 219 on the year after last night...:0074
Looking forward to El Paso also. My Dad's family is from West Texas/Eastern New Mexico and my wife has never been to that part of the country, so our plan is to go as a family so the kids can see where some of their family is from.
Thing that sucks is that El Paso is hard to get to from the air, so we may fly into Albuquerque, spend a day with my Aunt and then drive to El Paso as we will need a car for the week we are there anyway.
16 months until then, plenty of time to figure out the best options for making the trip.
