couldnt ask for more out of toledo and rutgers the last few days. but dammit -- youd think one of those friggin teams coulda held their 17 or 18 pt halftime lead and not lost at the buzzer to screw the moneylines. instead im left with easy spread winners, but excruciating moneyline losses.

ball state cardinals (+5)
ball state cardinals moneyline (+180)

both teams are playing better than anyone in the mac right now. dambrot is coach of the year right now for akron in my opinion. but really think ball state is the way to go in this one. both teams are very similar and super athletic and both have guys that can drain 3s and shoot it from the outside. but ball state has a big edge in experience and free throw shooting, and those are two areas where close games are decided. not really worried about ball state having a letdown from the big wmichigan win because the cards have had an easy work schedule the last 2 weeks and should be looking forward to keepin this solid play going. ball state is finally playing the way theyre capable of playing. this is a solid team and their rout of bowling green and then win in western michigan really was no fluke. theyve got some serious athletes on that team. waiting to hear from spang (or anyone) if chapman is a go for ball state, but im already down on both the points and moneyline. him not playing might lead me to buy a small percentage back, but still confident the cards get this one.

Gman,
Always enjoy your insight, and have coattailed many of your plays. Appreciate it. Have any thoughts on the Illinois/Wisky game tomorrow. Thanks.

vinnie: i normally split it so 2/3rds of my play is on the spread with the other 1/3 being on the moneyline. for the toledo game, it was exactly 70%/30%. so im still makin out, but to lose two moneylines by a combined 2 points (and both toledo and rutgers had open looks to win each at the buzzer ) -- its maddening.

roux: i think sun tzu is on the right side with illinois. but i cant touch that game. its really a tossup and the pick line is perfect for the game. it says flat out "pick the winner of the game and you cash". problem is, i dont know who the winner is, lol. i dont think illinois is the best team in the country (and really not even one of the top 3) but i think they survive tomorrow.

Damn G, Looks like Chapman Will be the dreaded GTD, but hell, he only got 11 minutes at Western so the Cards got it done without him. I probably won't know until I see warm-ups if hes going or not. Even without him the Cards have a great 1-2 punch with Stovall and Tramell, but if he doesn't go I think the Zips can compete under the glass. I don't know if you saw the box of the WMU game but the Cards actually held Reed scoreless, which is an almost unthinkable feat.

Still, Akron has been playing the best ball in the league as of late. The Zips have been throwing some huge runs at teams lately, (18-0 EMU) (20-0 Marshall ) and( 25-1 CMU ) and defensively they are using a match-up zone that has really been very effective. They are the highest scoring team in the MAC and also lead in margin of victory, so it takes some nut to go against them at this time. At this point its a no play for me. I might play the Zips tonight, but only if I see with my own eyes that Chapman is indeed not going. Unfortunately, that may not be confirmed until just before they tip.

good luck today Gman!

I like Illinois myself. problem could be inside rebounding, but other than that i really think that the Illini are to quick and physical for Wisconsin.

looks like akron jumped out 21-5 to start the game, ball state showed some composure and played themselves back into it. zips have gotten caught napping twice at home this year and blew double-digit leads to let their opposition back in the game (blew 13 pt 2nd half lead to cleveland state and let the vikings take the lead. also blew a 25 pt lead against eastern michigan to let them get as close as 5 or 6). still have a feeling akron's FT shooting is whats gonna keep ball state right in this game. and by the looks of it, stovall is having a big game for ball state right now.

ball state 2nd half (+1.5)

no shame in saying i was dead wrong here. 0-3 night for me. for those that followed, i owe ya one.

im very interested in knowing how the hell akron shoots 30 FTs and ball state has 7 with 5:00 to play. spang, gonna rely on your take when you get back from the game. was ball state shooting jump shots the whole night or was the whistle in akron's favor tonight? because that discrepancy is eye-popping.

cooler, dont sweat it. i really felt good about that 2nd half bet. it simply was a clunker. no jinxes from you or anything. youll get back on track. the breaks are cyclical. youve been on some hot streaks before, so dont worry man

Well quite honestly BSU was not homered tonight. Without Chapman, they settled for perimeter jumpers all night while the Zips went inside to Romeo quite a bit. While i'm sure that would have been a different game with Chapman in the lineup, the Zips were extremely active on defense and did a nice job of shutting down the middle. Stovall and Trammell are both effective scorers, but neither distributes the ball particularly well.

Quality win :)

spang:

im most impressed with akron's ability to stretch the game back out in the 2nd half. after they got off to that quick start, it seems ball state settled in and was ready to make a push to really tighten it up. but akron ran away with it, no doubt about it.

theyre playing some fantastic ball right now.
schedule certainly gets much tougher over the next two weeks, but i think theyre prepared to make a legit run here. hope you enjoyed the game. hell- im SURE you did, lol.
