The Boston Bruins have acquired goaltender Steve Shields from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for a third round draft pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, it was announced today by Bruins General Manager Mike O?Connell. Shields, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1, has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the team, terms of which were not announced.
?Going into the free agency period, we wanted to get another goaltender with NHL experience to protect ourselves,? said O?Connell. ?Steve is very competitive and has good size. This signing gives us more depth at that position and we expect a good competition at training camp.?
