If Team Clinton gets gushy tonight on their foreign policy successes
Remember:
1) Didn't give the troops in Somalia the air support they requested and ran once we took it on the nose. This fed the perception that the US was a paper tiger and would cut a run once it was bloodied (O.B.L.'s strategy behind 9/11 attacks)
2) Talked tough with Saddam (regime change, etc.) but did nothing of substance once Saddam threw out the weapons inspectors in 97. This fed the perception that the US was a paper tiger and was unwilling to risk blood and riches to back up its tough talk.
3) Was on the bridge while Al Qaeda was formed, grew, trained, attacked and ultimately planned 9/11. TO BE CLEAR, NEITHER BILL CLINTON OR GEORGE W ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE 9/11 ATTACKS, AL QAEDA IS. That being said, after the embassy bombings in 98 it was clear Al Qaeda was a growing threat and a heavier hand than lobbing two symbolic cruise missles was clearly justified.
