thursday college basketball plays........

played this one overnight for thursday hoops:

2 units.....illinois-chicago (+1) over loyola-chicago

clearly this is the biggest rivalry game in the horizon league. uic took the first meeting at the pavilion by 4 points, but they really didnt play well at all and still managed to beat loyola. obviously, given the rivalry and close proximity of the schools, emotion can sometimes overcome a lack of talent- but this is just one year where i think illinois-chicago is just much superior to their cross-town brothers, and the flames should sweep the season series.

Tough call here. Loyola has 1 loss at home all year to possbile tourney bound UW-Milwaukee. GL however will look further into this one.

1 unit.....long beach state (+17) over cal-santa barbara

might be getting sucked in here, but ill still take the chance. niners pulled the upset vs ucsb at home a month ago, and now are 17 point dogs in the rematch. im aware that lbsu sucks, and sucks even more on the road- but the fact remains- ucsb just isnt blowing anyone out this year, especially at home. they were really uninspired in their loss to detroit, so im sure theyd like to atone for that effort, but i dont think theyre capable of laying it on lbsu right now, especially with the gauchos having a much bigger game on deck 48 hours from now on saturday vs irvine. i think this game will be played in no-mans land for the both halves. ucsb should have a comfortable working lead, but i dont think lbsu will ever trail by more than 13 or 14 points.

I like the LBSU pick. The 49ers will likely lose, however are still playing for a Big West tourney spot. Plus you nailed it, UCSB does not blow teams out. GL
