Third time's no charm
Conventional wisdom has it that the third exhibition game is the most significant, the one that most resembles a regular-season matchup. Since the Eagles and Patriots actually have a regular-season matchup scheduled a little over three weeks from Friday (Sept. 21), that won't be the case this time.
Belichick said his team would run a bare-bones game plan against Philadelphia, not to hide things from the Eagles, but to enable the coach to see his own team more clearly.
``For the most part in preseason, and I think this is true for most other teams, we try not to overly get into game-planning,'' Belichick said. ``It doesn't help you evaluate a player if he succeeds because of scheming and matchups.
``We want our guys to have a chance to look good. But we want them to make plays because they're making plays.''
