...let's talk about this one....

...when the opening lines came out, I thought "Auburn only an 8 point fav over a mediocre (at best) Ga Tech team"

...that almost seems too easy, folks. Now I'm starting to see the posts trickle in on next weeks games and seems like most everyone has this game circled. Now, what does that tell us folks? We've all seen what happens when we are all on the same side....

I've seen the arguements for taking Auburn and they all seem to make sense to my feeble mind, but...does anyone have a counter argument for taking Ga Tech and the points in this one?

I think that I may just have to pass on this one....

...anyone want to chime in on this one? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Yes I'm a Bama Fan, wanted to get that outta the way rt. off, but, I felt from the start of the year, prior to the USC game, 7-8 men in the box, and make Campbell throw the ball. He will see this all year, and till he proves otherwise(which he may) that's gonna be every teams game plan. Also, Auburn is suspect at O-line with run blocking and pass protection. As for the defence, they may have problems at D-back, lost Juco player and had some injuries in spring, not much depth, which could spell trouble. I know its early, and I know USC may be one of the top 3-4 teams in country, but a run oriented team, who may be weak vs pass, may put itself in a spot of playing alot of close games, and close games on the road, well, you see where I'm going. At this point for Me, too many other games to look at, this one is a pass. Good luck my friend. Buck

Actually USC didnt even have to play 8 men in the box! The safetys stayed put because of SC's front fours quickness. I look for this line to continue to climb, and Auburn to make a statement here early. i think Reggie ball is in for a long day. I locked Auburn in at 8, and I dont think 10 is too far away. The trojans only had to go 35 yds for three tds. Thats not to say SC is not a very good team, its just that with one game under his belt and even at home I think the Tigers give C.D. and team all they can handle.
Just my two cents..Cabo...

I think this comes down to a bet on the psyche of the Auburn team, and how well Tuberville can motivate his players. If they've been reading the offseason predictions where they are the dark horse to win the Nat Championship, then they just witnessed all of their offseason work vanish in one afternoon, and they'll be extremely flat - they go on the road, against a non-division rival, who isn't really that good. If they can put the USC game behind them, come out with emotion and energy, they'll be able to stuff the ball down Ga Tech's throats and romp to an easy win (won't need to rely on Campbell to make any plays, which is good).

I'm a huge believer in emotion as a factor in college football games (which is why I'll be on BYU this week), and I have no feel for how Auburn responds this week, so this game is definitely a no-play for me.

One play that I will make this week is BYU + 21. USC is bound to have a slight letdown this week after their huge road win. They have a few less days to prepare for this game (they travelled across the country, and BYU played on Thursday). USC defense is very, very good, but their offense didn't completely dominate Auburn. Their first TD came after a turnover, and they did need to settle for FGs. BYU has a solid defense, and should be able to hold USC to 30 points or less, so all I need is for BYU to score 10 points and I cash the ticket. And with the letdown I feel that USC will have, 10 points should be easy to get.

Tigers D really impressed me in the SC game. The speed of the Auburn LB's sideline to sideline was unbelievable. Due to Auburn turnovers, the Trojans parlayed less than 40 yds of offense into 17 pts. SC converted on only 4-15 3rd downs, and ran for about 3 yds/carry before their last drive -- 6-40y to run out the clock. I think in many ways they were the equal to the SC D, but didnt create any SC mistakes. Dont think they will have that problem w GT. I think Auburn D can shutout the Jackets, & give their offense a short field.

Tigers off was weak. New OC Nall played into the hands of Pete Carroll by passing so much early in the game. RB Carnell Williams was 6-25y rushing in the 1Q & didnt get another carry til late in the 3Q. In fact, Auburn only handed the ball to a RB 20 times all game! QB Campbell threw 17 times & ran 6 times in the 1H! I dont think Auburn's coaches will make that mistake again! I think they make things simpler for Campbell & the OL, by going straight at Tech. Williams & Brown should each get 100+ yds, w Campbell getting a TD pass & run!

I know everybody & their momma is on Auburn, but I cant see Tech standing up to the Tigers on either side of the ball.

mjbarley,

I'm with you on the BYU pick! SC very young in the backfield, and may have trouble getting in the endzone on sustained drives. My thinking is that if SC settles for 2-3 fgs instead of TDs, then 14+ pts will keep the Cougars inside this #.
