Two years ago the Mexican government started to issue survival kits to illegals entering the USA. This year mexicans will send approx. $12.6 BILLION dollars to their home country. Read the following two articles.

What if?

by Chris Feeney

What if the U.S. government spent tax dollars on providing body armor, faster get-away cars, fake passports and the works to make life safer for bank robbers? Sure, it seems a bit odd to be promoting criminal activity. Yet that seems to be the mindset of the Mexican government which recently announced it would be paying for more than 200,000 "survival kits" to be distributed to illegal immigrants along the Mexican border with the United States.

Apparently the Mexican government is alarmed by the more than 300 deaths that occur each year along the border as its citizens attempt to sneak into the United States. But instead of funding law enforcement along the border or promoting education regarding the dangers of attempting to illegally enter the U.S. the Mexican government will hand out kits to help its people flee the economic woes of Mexico so they may try to find the elusive American dream. So thanks to their efforts it will now be a bit easier for illegal immigrants to enter this country.

The kit will include snake-bite antidotes, rehydration pills, dehydrated food and other first aid and survival items to preserve the health of the illegal immigrants in case the border crossing turns into a prolonged jail break. Sure it is a tragedy that 300 people a year die from snake bites, drowning, starvation, exposure or dehydration as they attempt to illegally enter the United States. One can not fault a government for trying to preserve the lives of its citizens. Yet the danger of the crossing was likely the lone deterrent keeping many immigrants from attempting to sneak across the border.

I also can not look past the message this sends to the citizens of Mexico. How would you feel if the U.S. government was paying out money to get you to leave the country? Even worse is the image of paying money to help the lowest social classes to leave. Of course the survival kit probably is a lot cheaper than doling out welfare and social services to the poor, whom the Mexican government obviously would prefer to pass on to the United States.

The Mexican government did reveal one motive behind the move that makes sense. It doesn't want these illegal immigrants to die crossing the border, especially when they are returning to Mexico with the money they have made in the United States. Let's face it, while this project is being funded by the Mexican social services, it likely is being underwritten by the country's economic development people. The illegal immigration not only helps Mexico with unemployment and welfare issues, but it turns around and boosts the economy with an influx of cash being brought home by the traveling workers. Shoot his survival kit is like that funny duck AFLAC, it's supplemental insurance to make sure these illegal immigrants not only make it into the U.S., but that they also return home safely.

The U.S. has expressed its displeasure with the new policy but it doesn't appear our scorn will stop Mexico from beginning to hand out the survival kits in the middle of June. For some reason it brings to mind the picture of the great land races held in Oklahoma during the pioneer days. Apparently that terminology isn't too far off, as the head of the Mexican program has gone as far as to describe the illegal immigrants as "the new pioneers of America". Maybe I am taking this a little too seriously. I mean what country wouldn't encourage its citizens to commute to a better paying job, even if it meant breaking a few laws here or there?

NOW THE PAYOFF:

Aug 29, 2003

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican migrant workers sent more money to their home country than either foreign investors or tourists this year, according to central bank figures released this week.

Since the central Bank of Mexico's current recording format began in 1980, remittances have never before exceeded both tourism and foreign investment over a six-month period.

Remittances began to gradually outstrip tourism starting in 1998, although some recorded "tourism" is actually Mexicans bringing rather than sending money to family members.

This year, recorded remittances jumped 29 percent in the first half of 2003 to $6.3 billion, outstripping the $5.2 billion sent in direct foreign investment.

That's second only to income from oil exports, at more than $8 billion, and well ahead of tourism at $4.9 billion.

Although part of the surge was attributed to higher migration rates, better monitoring and a campaign to make money transfers cheaper and safer also resulted in more money being tracked as it crossed the border. The use of money orders increased by 104 percent in the first half of 2003 over the same period of 2002, while hard-to-count cash transfers dropped by 28.6 percent.

sorry to highjack this thread.....but here's a little adage in regards to the AFLAC ducky:

silly

pretty much this sums it up:

AFLAC TV Commercial Degrades Ducks

Please contact AFLAC Incorporated (a supplemental medical insurance company) and urge them to stop running TV commercials that represent ducks in dangerous, unnatural, and degrading situations. Below is the contact information, and below that is UPC's letter to the company. Feel free to draw upon the information in the letter, but put it in your own words. Thank you for contacting AFLAC!

and some more news for you AFLAC fans....!!

(AP) The AFLAC duck is going to Japan this month with a softer quack.

In commercials designed for the Japanese market, AFLAC has ditched comedian Gilbert Gottfried's abrasive quacking of the Columbus, Ga.-based insurance company's name.

Instead, a Japanese actor portrays the duck with a more soothing tone.

"The Japanese culture does not like to be yelled at," AFLAC spokeswoman Laura Kane said. "Gilbert might be a little over the top."

Gottfried's voice will remain in U.S. commercials, which have paired the duck with celebrities including Chevy Chase, Yogi Berra and Wayne Newton.

About 70 percent of AFLAC's income comes from the Japanese market, which brought in $7.6 billion in 2002. Its U.S. operations posted $2.6 billion in revenue for 2002.

While this campaign is the first to be shot specifically for Japan, it won't be Japan's first introduction to the AFLAC duck. In 2001, the company ran a commercial with dubbed voices for the actors and the duck.

The Japanese commercials, to run May 16, feature popular actors Akiko Yada and Yanagiba Toshiro trying to remember the name of the company. The duck, as is customary, quacks "AFLAC."

In Japan, the actors will talk directly to the duck, the company said, whereas in the American versions, the actors never notice the frustrated duck.

I like the AFLAC Duck too T-V. Hope he stays away from China, especially Peking, if you get my drift.

Any comments on the above article will just get you attacked as a racist or well take your pick. Maybe ppl from the Philippines are the 'Master Race' as I've travelled all over Luzon and everyone form tots to adults spoke fluent English. From barrios of Pasig in Manila to mountains of Nuevo Viscaya to Baguio. What is their motivation?

Also been to Buddhist Temples here in the states w/a lot of Laotian. Thai and Cambodian friends who love to 'test' their English on me. Some of the best times I've ever had. All I was trying to convey was that we should support our laws because they are there for a reason, but guess that doesn't matter if you think you know better and speak for everyone else.
I like these threads and won't get into a p*ssing contest on a keyboard. You got something to say w/out merit- you can at least show a little class and say it in person.
I'd like to bring up how are we supposed to ensure our security as a lot, not all, but a lot of drugs and ppl, (not all Mexicans). are coming over to expoit the US. Passports and DL's are easy to buy on the street don't forget- what do you think will happen w/Matricula Consular cards? Or how Mexico seems to want to 'help' their ppl enter the states, but what about the Mexicans that commit crimes in the US and run back to Mexico where their Govt won't extradite them. Doesn't exactly seem to be in the true spirit of cooperation. Does it benefit Mexico for their Illegal Aliens- Undocumented Immigrants- to send money back or to buy houses here in the US? Then again who am I to try to converse w/ppl that don't care to debate, (not argue), or flame those they disagree with? And I do buy American, when possible.
What do I know about Legal Immigration or Minorities? Guess you'd better ask Nick Douglas- after all he goes to USC and writes a column on Professional Wrestling :com:

this is what happens in Georgia I was told.

They come in from Mexico and get set up with a place to live.
They try to get uncles, cousins, brothers , etc to get over here with them.

They live meagerly with 5-9 ppl in a apartment. They send money back home to Mexico weekly. With the money their wives or a trusted relative use it to buy houses and land which are much cheaper there of course.

In five to ten years they go home to Mexico and retire.

That dont sound so bad.

Maybe it should say Duck/Duck. As in our government looking the other way as many come acrosse the border. Why is that? Well the government hopes they work for legit companies and small business that keeps books. That way they deduct US Taxes and SS That many will never be around to claim. Estimate is USA tresury makes 800 million ayear. So they talk one way in Wash DC and really think another. And it did not just start. They been at it at least 25 years. Now you no why you dont see our military guarding the border.

Thank God for Mexicans

Thank God for Mexicans

If it wasn't for Mexicans, the restaurant & agricultural industry in the United States would suffer tremendously. Have you ever seen the inside of a restaurant's kitchen? There is 3 mexicans for every american, and that is simply because the sh*t work in these places, dishwashing, prep work, extreme hot conditions, long hours, americans simply do not want to do to. I am not talking out of my ass either, I have worked in & owned restuarants for over 10 years. So who cares if they come into our country and get paid $7 an hour to wash dishes in your local restaurant. Think about it.

So I must assume we don't have unemployment prob here--only people that would rather collect welfare and unemployment than work for $7 an hour????

I only have one question for you Einstein liberals. Scroll to very bottom of link and take a look at chart (and read data above at your leisure.)

While you are accomplishing one thing "shoring up future votes"
PLEASE explain to me With currently 70% of African American children being born out of wedlock your going to have mucho welfare benefits to pay,and with the legal and illegal $7 an hour hispanic jobs which will provide almost 0 income tax revenue if you had your way on tax system--just who is going to pay for all these entitlements. How can there possibly be a viable social security system left. I do not envy the future for the young working class.
