Great idea Mjbarley, just seems to me that Kansas State schedule seems to get weaker each year, I know they playes So Cal last year but there has to be someone better than McNeese State and UMASS out there to schedule.

I thought Marshall played Ten. tough. That is not an easy place to play. Would love to see K.St. lose to Marshall next week. GL

ESPN's Bottom 10

The Bottom 10's inspirational thought of the week:

It's a dog's life
And it's not my fault
Ought to hang my picture
In the All-Time Losers'
Hall of Fame
Bad Karma
It's a low-down dirty shame

-- Warren Zevon "Bad Karma"

The Bottom 10 mourns the passing of singer-songwriter Warren Zevon and hopes his words help this week's teams -- and that they find a way to shake off their bad karma.

As for the Bottom 10 itself, we didn't think it was possible after Iowa routed Buffalo 56-7, but the Bulls had one of the best performances of the Top 5 -- really. At least Buffalo lost to a Division I-A team, had a first-half possession without a turnover and scored a touchdown. While we love the Auburn-Vanderbilt matchup, the Pillow Fight of the Week is SMU at Baylor.

Have a comment about the Bottom 10 ranking? Send us your thoughts.

With apologies to Steve Harvey, here's this week's Bottom 10:

ESPN.com's Bottom 10 Week 2
Rank Team Rec. Comment
1 UTEP 0-2 Getting pounded in the opener at Arizona is bad, but getting blasted at home by Division I-AA Cal Poly moves the Miners to the top.
2 Buffalo 0-2 The Bulls gave up points every way you can -- offense, special teams and defense -- but it wasn't enough to stay on top. Advice: schedule more Div. I-AA teams.
3 Louisiana Monroe 0-2 The Indians also lost to a Div. I-AA school, Stephen F. Austin, but at least the Indians kept it close.
4 Baylor 0-2 The Bears had turnovers on each of their first six possessions of the first half in a 52-14 loss to North Texas. Maybe the Big 12 should look into a meaner shade of green?
5 Auburn 0-2 The fall from a preseason national contender to the dreaded Bottom 10 No. 5 spot can be a quick one. Hey Tigers, scoring a touchdown might help.
6 Idaho 0-2 The Vandals dropped an 8-5 decision to Eastern Washington. If this was a baseball game, we apologize for the mistake.
7 Eastern Michigan 1-1 A 1-1 start usually isn't good enough to land you on the Bottom 10, but we're talking East Tennessee State and Western Illinois here.
8 Tulsa 0-2 Minnesota posted 49 on the Golden Hurricane. Arkansas put up 45 last Saturday. If Southwest Texas breaks 40, look out UTEP.
9 Temple 0-2 If you haven't guessed by now, losing to a Division I-AA team is a good way to get Bottom 10 recognition. The Owls can thank Villanova.
10 Indiana 0-2 First the UConn stadium opener, then U-Dub coach Keith Gilbertson's first win -- the Hoosiers are most gracious visitors.

Waiting list: Arizona's defense, Army (0-1), East Carolina (0-2), Ohio State's offense, Rice (0-1), SMU (0-1), Troy State (0-2).

LETDOWN, LOOKAHEAD AND SANDWICH GAMES - Ohio State was in a classic sandwich game having just faced Pac 10 contender Washington and with ranked NC State on deck. San Diego State was without starting QB Adam Hall but still dominated the Bucks with 20-10 FD and 216-196 yd edges. In fact, OSU was fortunate to win due to a 102 yd int return for a TD basically a 14 pt swing that allowed them to escape by 3...

Last week Wake Forest was outgained by BC 186-46 in the 1H and 443-309 for the game. It appears they were outplayed by NCSt once again as the Wolfpack had a 511-375 yd edge last week. That was not the case, however, as WF had a 256-186 yd edge at the half and led 38-17 with 4:41 left before allowing NCSt an 80 yd garbage TD drive. WF was fired up during the week when NCSt Coach Amato said he would discipline any players that mentioned Ohio St. WF HC Grobe told his players that what Amato meant was that if they focused on Wake, they would win easily. Hence, the lookahead applied to NCSt. NCSt was playing without top RB T.A. McClendon and WR Sterling Hicks.

Brock Berlin led UM to 28 unanswered points Saturday night. (AP)
DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN - When Payton Manning was the QB at Tennessee, Memphis upset them and last week the Tigers upset Eli Manning's Ole Miss team. Mississippi could have won but 2 big plays late hurt them. Ahead 34-31 with 7:00 to go at the 43 yd line, Manning hit his receiver in stride for what would have been a TD but the ball was dropped. Then, on 2nd & 11 from their own 8 Memphis QB Danny Wimprine, under pressure and off balance from his own EZ, lofted a pass that saw the Ole Miss DB fall down and it was caught by Davis and taken 92 yds for a TD. On Miss' last two drives Manning was int'd and Memphis tacked on a couple of late FG's in the 44-34 upset. It was the first time Memphis had beaten Ole Miss since 1994...

Bowling Green got its first victory over a ranked opponent since September 16, 1972. Ironically the opponent they faced that day was the same Purdue team they defeated on Saturday. Joe Tiller had been a perfect 6-0 in his home openers but big QB Josh Harris hit 22 of 40 for 357 yds including the game winning TD which came on 4th & 15. Purdue had numerous blown chances with John Standeford and Taylor Stubblefield combining to drop 3 straight open TD passes....

Maryland got off to a slow start LY and we used our September 5H on Florida State and they pounded the Terps 37-10. MD actually got a 58 yd int return for a TD on the first series and jumped out to a 10-0 lead but the rest of the game was dominated by FSU as they scored the final 35 points and finished with 23-13 FD and 427-197 yd edges. After the game Coach Friedgen said about Bowden "I just wonder if he's working with 85 scholarships. It seems he's got a lot more guys than I've got."...

In 1994, Florida led Florida St 31-3 but the game ended up in a 31-31 tie. A game they considered "their worst ever loss.? Florida appeared to have Miami (FL) beaten at Miami as they led 33-10 with 6:10 left in the 3Q. Florida transfer Brock Berlin threw for 340 yds despite having leg cramps and guided the team to the comeback win including a TD with just 1:44 left. UF did get to the UM 20 on their last drive but was int'd...

Boise State was one of the most dominating teams in college football last year winning their WAC games by an average of 51.1-13.9 for the season. While it wasn't a WAC game, they were playing against a team from their former conference (Big Sky) in Idaho State and put together another impressive performance in the 62-0 win piling up 587 yds offense in their first game of the season.

IAA MATCHUPS - Many times opponents overlook IAA foes while IAA teams circle their calender for the meetings with the big teams and that sometimes leads to upsets. Temple has now missed 5 FG's in the first 2 weeks and in the 2nd OT vs Villanova, the 5th miss cost them but Villanova had a 407-357 yd edge...

Clemson only beat Furman 28-17 but it was 28-7 after 3Q's and Furman scored their first TD's vs Clemson in 8 games dating back to 1961 with a 20 yd TD pass in the final quarter. CU had a 425-174 yd edge including Furman's 108 yds in the 4Q. Nothing fluky about Cal-Poly's upset of UTEP. They had a 451-256 yd edge. UTEP is a team loaded with juniors and Coach Nord should be hopeful to make it to next season to take advantage of that experience and it looks like a long year for UTEP...

While Arizona State beat N Arizona by 20, it was a sloppy opening game for the Sun Devils. Two Lumberjack drives in the 2Q ended on missed 37 & 27 yd FG's and NA also dropped what could have been a wide open 94 yd TD pass early 3Q. ASU got a 38 yd TD pass with 2:00 left to extend it to 20 and NA had a 22-19 FD edge...

For once Arkansas State was on the positive side of a blowout as they whipped IAA Tenn-Martin 63-6...

ULM lost to a Southland Conference team for the 4th year in a row as SF-Austin defeated them 23-21...

C Michigan got two 4Q TD's to take command vs New Hampshire 40-26 but NH got a 48 yd TD pass with 1:27 left then recovered the onside kick and drove to the CM 24 before running out of time...

Jared Lorenzen passed Tim Couch as Kentucky's all-time passing leader and he now has 8,566 career yards. He threw 4 TD passes vs Murray State last week...

W Michigan QB Chad Munson passed for 450 yds breaking 2 school records and he hit his career high for a 2nd week in a row. The single game record was held by Tim Lester and set in 1998 (435).

leaning towards MTSU against Clemson...MTSU has 7 sacks in 2 games..they could be very strong defensively against Clemson ..getting 14 points is starting to look good against a Clemson who got 2 touchdowns off of turnovers ..they gave up 467 yards against Georgia but if you throw that game out they normally give up 100 yars per game ..could be the sleeper of the week and win S/U.

PITTSBURGH...Rutherford didn?t start vs. Kent State as punishment for off-field incident, but he came on to throw 4 TDP in the 2nd Q of 43-3 blowout of Flashes.

PURDUE...Though starting QB Orton completed 26 of 42 for 255 yds. with 3 TDP in loss to Bowling Green, Boiler HC Tiller said he was not happy that Falcon defense was able to bluff Orton into changing plays at the line of scrimmage several times and that he considered putting backup Kirsch into the game in the 4th Q to give the offense a spark.

SAN DIEGO STATE...Starting sr. QB Hall (high-ankle sprain) DNP at Ohio State and is expected to miss 3-6 weeks. Soph Dlugolecki was 23 of 39 for 189 yds. with a TDP and 2 ints. UTAH...Check status of starting QB Elliot, who injured his arm (details were not available at TGS press time late Sunday night, but scouts say it appeared serious) on failed 2-point conversion with 8 seconds left in 28-26 loss at Texas A&M. Sr. backup QB Rice is less mobile than Elliot, but he does have 20 career starts. Top WR jr. Warren, who had 7 catches for 103 yds. and a TD in opener, was suspended for A&M game after he was arrested for allegedly shoplifting $10 worth of condoms from a grocery store last week. And star sr. DE Kaufusi (recovering from shoulder surgery; 1st-team all-conf. L2Ys) is not expected back until end of the month.

UTEP...Bumbling Miner offense has 3 TDs and 8 TOs so far this season. UTEP allowed 34 unanswered points before scoring a late TD in humbling 34-13 home loss to Div. I-AA Cal Poly last week.

VIRGINIA...Check status of star QB Schaub. The 2002 ACC Player of the Year sat out vs. South Carolina after hurting his shoulder on 1st series of opener, but Schaub hopes to start throwing again this week and there is a chance he could be available at W. Michigan. Martinez struggled in 31-7 loss to Gamecocks, completing 10 of 20 for only 54 yds. with 2 interceptions. Versatile sr. OLman Bailey (knee) has missed first 2 games. Starting FS Davis left vs. So. Car. after hurting his shoulder.

Toledo at MARSHALL (Friday night)...Toledo overcame 28-10 2nd-Q deficit before bowing in wild 49-45 MAC championship game at Marshall LY. Rockets led 45-42 late in 4th Q before Thundering Herd QB Leftwich (now with Jacksonville Jags) threw 40-yd. TD pass with just 49 ticks left.

Kentucky at ALABAMA...New era for both programs. But Tide hasn?t ?rolled? as big favorite lately, going 12-21 as DD home chalk over last decade (3-6 since ?00). UK perfect 3-0 as DD road dog last 1+ Ys.

Washington State at COLORADO...CU only 50-50 as home chalk last 3+ seasons, while WSU is 6-2 as road dog over same time frame.

Georgia Tech at FLORIDA STATE...FSU has covered 8 of past 10 in series (10-0 SU). ?Noles managed to barely cover 7?-point spread in 21-13 victory LY thanks to CB Samuels? momentum-shifting 82-yd. int return for TD in 2nd Q. FSU?s now-departed QB MacPherson completed just 8 of 24 for 139 yds.

Penn State at NEBRASKA...NU in nasty mood for Penn State following mortifying 40-7 clobbering in ?Happy Valley? year ago. Husker QB Lord was only 8 of 16 for 76 yds. & 3 ints., one of which was returned 44 yds. for Nittany Lion TD. Note, Paterno is 6-1 as road dog last 2+ seasons.

Hawaii at SOUTHERN CAL...USC has covered 8 of last 9, but UH has been scrappy dog lately, going 6-1 vs. spread last 2+ seasons. Doubt Rainbow mentor June Jones has forgotten 62-7 throttling in ?99 by Trojans at Honolulu in his debut.

Louisville at SYRACUSE...L?ville should benefit from some strategic edge with new HC Petrino, who faced Syracuse when was o.c. at Auburn L2Ys. Tiger eked out 37-34 home OT win vs. Orange LY.

Purdue at WAKE FOREST...Big payback game for Purdue, which suffered its most stunning upset since ?00 in 24-21 home defeat vs. Wake Forest LY. Boilermakers? 3 botched FG attempts and season-high 5 TOs greatly attributed to stunning home loss.

Unlv at WISCONSIN...UNLV going for its 2nd revenge game of year (covered vs. Toledo in opener) vs. Wisconsin squad that handled Rebels 27-7 in LY?s lidlifter. Rebels committed 5 TOs (none for Badgers) in game that was suspended with 7:41 to go due to power outage. Unfounded rumors swirled about a conspiracy initiated by angry Rebel ?investors,? who reported much to the chagrin of UW backers making trip to Las Vegas cut the power lines at Sam Boyd Stadium, since there is no betting action on games called with more than 5 mins. remaining.

Patron,

I don't know what your issue this year is but you need to chill out! Yes I played Utah early in the week and have you seen me post anything else on the game? I will stick by the Utes, even though the play looks shaky due to the injury situation. Why don't you try to add some good info instead of the negativity, BAD KARMA!
