Scott, I know I will get some homer bashing for some of my comment's but you ask,so I'll tell you what I think.

This game is going to be won or lost on the offensive and defensive line's. the strenth of Texas is no doubt their defensive front, well Arkansas strenth is their offensive line. Shawn Andrew's, OT, will be a top 5 pick in next year's NFL Draft, He is a hoss. It will be great to see the big boy's inside go at it.

Some of the other key match-up's will beTexas Roy William's ( by far their biggest threat vs. Ahmad "Batman" Carroll. Carroll was down on Texas and Arkansas as his 2cchoice's for college, he chose Arkansas, and I'll guarantee you he is up for the challenge to play Texas.

I for one think Texas is down a notch from last year's team, on the other hand Arkansas has 17 returning starter's. I believe they have actually improved in the area's in which they lost a starter from last year. They lost Fred Talley ,their leading rusher last year, but they have a healthy Cedric Cobb's who was a Heisman cantidate before being injured vs. Alabama in the second game of the season 2 year's ago. They also lost CB Kenny Hamlin ( Seatle Seahawk's), but the defensive secondary is is excellent shape without him.

As far as the 2 QB system for Arkansas, I for one believe it is more of a head game for opponent's. They have to prepare for both. I think Matt Jones ,3 year Junior starter with get 80% of the snap's. He is a super athlete.

I know some people have the memory of Arkansas lackluster performance vs. Minnesota in last year's bowl game. You can throw that game out, believe me. Arkansas was not at all motivated to play that game. in the previous 3 year's they played Texas-Cotton, Michigan-Citrus, Oklahoma-Cotton,so they were a little deflated to play in the Misic City Bowl.

I would also like to add that Arkansas is probably as good as anyone with their starting 22, the problem for Arkansas has alway's been depth. We just don't have the number's to match-up week in week out vs. the like's of Florida, Tennesse, Georgia, Alabama,Auburn,LSU ect. So generally speaking we get pretty banged up as the season move's on. I can tell you it is a big advantage for Arkansas to play Texas this early, at full strenth.

I also believe Arkansas is much more excited about playing Texas than vice-versa.That being said, I KNOW they are INSULTED at being a 13 1/3 pt. underdog to ANYONE. Nutt will have these guy's motivated to play. Nutt played at Arkansas when they were in the Southwest Conference and Texas was a yearly rivalry. It is a huge game to him.

Bottom line, if this number goes to +14, I will probably make one of the biggest wager's I've ever made, I think their is alot of value at +13 1/2. I don't know if they can pull off the upset, but you can bet your bottom dollar, I'm on them HUGE to cover. I think the early start favor's Arkansas, and there are alot of fan's crossing the state line to go to the game. I look for a very competive game.

mjb,
I agree with you. This old SWC rivalry game will have the Hogs ready. Combine that with the Mack Brown fail-to-win-the-big-game factor and I think the Hogs have a legitimate shot for an upset. Hey, If Texas Tech could beat this Horns team(even though it was last year with Lil'Chrissy at QB) I'll take a pretty solid Arkansas team anyday! Dog play baby!!!

:D

This game is going to be won or lost on the offensive and defensive line's. the strenth of Texas is no doubt their defensive front, well Arkansas strenth is their offensive line.

I completely agree with this and will tell you right now that Arkansas will be able to run the ball. Million dollar question in austin is if we can run the ball. Not only that, do we come out and try to set up the pass by running? that was the approach (as it should have been) against N. Mex St and it didn't turn out so well. Our D-line has the potential to be one of the best in the country, but I am not buying into it until I see it. Advantage Hogs with that massive O-line.

i hope Batman comes to play and I hope they have enought confidence in him to man up on Roy. If they do he can either a) pull a Terrence Newman last year in Manhattan and take him away while BJ Johnson has a career day or b) Roy can go off. I don't know Batman's height, but I know he is good and speedy. that one will be interesting

the new mex st. game didn't show much except that this team can pounce on overmatched teams quick. that game was 7-0 new mex. st at the end of the first quarter (or close to it), then just like that it was over. big play ability on defense and special teams could play a factor.

I think we are down from last year only in the QB area. Mock is unproven, but my one thing i am hoping is that these coaches have made him understand that you don't have to do much to win with the talent that surrounds him. example - OSU last year. Krenzel (sp) didn't have to do much, just make a few passes and make the right adjustments and they got a national championship.

Jones is an athelete, but if we can somehow get him into some 3rd and long's, can he throw the ball? big if, but I don't he can. again, this is all from what i have read about the kid.

mack has been using Nutt's horns down at the end of the 2000 cotton bowl as motivation all week. pic has been blown up and posted everywhere.

i don't know why the early start favors the hogs, but would be interested to hear the reasoning. also, UT gave the hogs 4,000 tickets and I am sure they acquired a few more, but even if they bring 10,000 you still have 72,000 out there in orange.

I am staying away from this one, but if i did make a play it would be on the hogs to cover.

Finally, just to put the Mack talk and big game crap to rest. mack beat nebraska at home in 1999, when they were #1 in the country. he also went there last year and beat them (not as big) just like he did in 1998 to end the home streak, beat CU at home in 2001 (they went to a BCS bowl that year), and beat K-state on the road last year in Manhattan. anybody remember how many people were wishing we could see a k-state/USC match-up last year because they were the "two hottest teams in the country?" anyway, he can't beat OU. he won his first 2, but has lost the last 3 (the ones that matter). hopefully that turns this year, but the guy can win a big game.

My final tip on playing texas this year- when they play weak teams that they will kill (read baylor, rice, and maybe tulane) look at playing the over because mack has said how he didn't get chance enough playing time last year. this year young will be coming in and the guy is amazing. he pretty much put game 1 over the total and will likely do it again. good luck

my dad played on the 1969-1970 national championship teams of texas- so there is no doubt i am a die hard longhorn. we will be there on saturday- if i had to wager on the game- i would take the points. texas should win the game but until they defeat a quality opponent, i am not betting on them. not taking anything away from them- hell, i want them to win the national champinship. bottom line- michaeljbird is correct- a lot of value with the hogs + 13 1/2

gl to all of us- horns and hogs and everyone else

Pigs will not score over 14 points on us. Texas should hang atleast 30. I have it at 38-13. They're in for an ass kicking.

This team is better than last year's. We have 2 mobile QB's that can escape the pocket, unlike Simms. We have too much depth for the pigs too.

as a life long hog fan totally agree with the hogs covering this game . have watched them long enough to know they that when they come into a big game as dd underdogs they r at their best in covering and even pulling an upset on occasion . i think ill put a couple of bucks on them!!!.. gl to all:yup

Arkansas wants this game more than any SEC matchup on their schedule. For Texas, this is just one more team that hates them. Texas is always going to be over-rated because of their flash and the Hogs will always be under-rated because their . . . Pigs.

Alot of game I like this weekend so I might pass on this one, but Arkansas is the only way to go.

Arkansas is 19-9-1 as a dog in their last 29
