11 a.m.

MINNESOTA (-1 ?) at PENN ST.: Last season Minnesota (4-0 SU&ATS) opened the season with four straight routs against cupcake competition before dropping its Big-10 opener at Purdue. It could be d?j? vu all over again when they begin Big-10 bloodletting at Penn State (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS). The Gophers have outscored their first four foes this season by an average of 34 points per game, once again versus less than the cream of the crop. Minnesota has lost four of its last six versus the Nittany Lions, but cashed in five of the six, including three straight in Happy Valley and four in a row, overall. The Gophers have slipped in four of their last five Big-10 openers SU&ATS while Penn State has failed to cash in eight of its last 10 conference debuts.

NORTHWESTERN at OHIO ST.: The Buckeyes hope to have Craig Krenzel back in harness after he sat out last week?s squeaker versus Bowling Green. Ohio State (4-0 SU, 1-3 ATS) hasn?t dropped four in a row ATS since closing out the 2000 season with four straight spread defeats. The Buckeyes have cashed at a 6-3-1 clip in their last 10 with Northwestern (2-2 SU, 3-1 ATS), failing last season 27-16 as 25-point road favorites. The Wildcats have lost 19 straight versus the Buckyes, posting a 7-11- 1 ATS mark. Northwestern has cashed at a 10-4-1 clip when underdogs of 24 points or more. Ohio State is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 conference openers.

Added game

UCONN at VIRGINIA TECH (-23 ?): The Hokies spanked Connecticut (3-1 SU&ATS) in the only previous series clash, 52-10 at home in 2001. The Huskies have ?covered? nine of their last 10 as road dogs and seven of eight when getting 21 ? points or more. Virginia Tech (3-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) has won and cashed it last five prior to its conference opener. The Hokies have also ?covered? seven of eight in Blacksburg against non-conference foes and 24 of 32 outside the Big East, overall.

11:10 a.m.

INDIANA at MICHIGAN (-34 ?): It could be a long afternoon for the Hoosiers as Michigan (3-1 SU&ATS) rebounds after a disappointing loss at Oregon. The Wolverines have won eight of their last 19 against Indiana (1-3 SU, 0-3 ATS) and 21 consecutive Big-10 openers. The Hoosiers have come up short in six of their last eight conference tests ATS and 14 of 20 as road dogs of at least 20 points. The visitor has come away with the money in seven of the last nine series squabbles.

IOWA (-7) at MICHIGAN ST.: John L. Smith added the first feather to his cap as Michigan State (3-1 SU, 1-3 ATS) coach with a 22-16 upset win at Notre Dame. The Spartans haven?t had much luck against Iowa (4-0 SU&ATS), floundering in nine of 11 ATS, including eight of 10 in East Lansing ATS. The Hawkeyes have cashed 10 straight and 12 of their last 13. They have also prevailed in nine of their last 12 on the road in conference play and 12 of 16 in the Big-10, overall. MSU, on the other hand, has stumbled in 13 of 17 at home ATS and at a 1-6-1 pace versus conference foes. They have cashed at a 6-2-1 clip as home dogs and the underdog has ?covered? six of the last nine series wars.

11:30 a.m.

FLORIDA (-9) at KENTUCKY: Gators coach Ron Zook has decided to give true freshman C.J. Leak his first start versus Kentucky (2-2 SU, 2-1 ATS). Florida (2-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) has won 16 straight against the Wildcats, getting the green in 11 of the 16, including five of the last six. The Gators have collected at an 18-13-1 clip as road chalk while Kentucky has disappointed in 13 of 20 as home dogs since ?97.

MISSOURI (-11 ?) at KANSAS: If the Jayhawks can upset Missouri (4-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) they will post four straight wins for the first time since 1995, their last winning season. Kansas (3-1 SU, 2-1 ATS) has slipped in 17 of its last 25 as a home dog and 13 of 16 in Big-12 play ATS. The Tigers have lost five of their last six SU in Lawrence, dropping four of six ATS.

12 p.m.

BALL ST. at BC (-22): The Eagles could have a tough time surviving a MAC attack after getting ripped by conference foe Miami last week. Boston College (2-2 SU&ATS) hasn?t lost two straight since its last pair in 2000 and it has cashed six off seven coming off a conference loss. The Eagles are 13-19 ATS outside the Big East and 1-6 at Chestnut Hill versus non-conference rivals. Ball State (2-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) cashed at Pitt on Sept. 13 as 21-point dogs before opening conference play with a 27-14 win over CMU last week. SO. FLA (-18 ?) at ARMY: South Florida (1-1 SU, 0-1 ATS) has been a profitable play as favorites, getting the cheese in eight of 10. Army (0-3 SU&ATS) has lost 14 of its last 15 SU and failed to cash five straight. The Cadets are 3-8-1 ATS as double-digit home dogs.

Cribbs is expected to be ready for UCF (1-2 SU, 0-2 ATS). Kent (2-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) has flopped in nine of its last 12 at home in MAC play and in six of its last seven as double-digit home dogs. ARKANSAS at ALABAMA (PK): It?s double revenge time for the high-flying Razorbacks after being outscored by Alabama (2-2 SU&ATS) 61-22 the past two seasons. Arkansas (3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) looks to open the season with four straight victories for the first time since ?98. The last time the Hogs won in Tuscaloosa was in ?97 when they escaped with a 17-16 verdict. The home team has ?covered? in four of the last five series encounters.

WASHINGTON ST. at OREGON (-4): The Ducks are off to their usual fast start. Oregon (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) won six straight to begin both 2001 and 2002. They have cashed four of their last five as favorites against Washington State (3-1 SU&ATS) and seven of 10 in Eugene. The Ducks have been dunked in eight of their last 10 at home in conference play while the Cougars have ?covered? 10 of 13 on the road, overall and in Pac-10 play. Washington State snapped a four-game SU losing slide against Oregon with a 32-21 home win in 2002.

STANFORD at WASHINGTON (-13 ?): Stanford (2-0 SU&ATS) may have gotten off the hot seat in Palo Alto after losing nine of his first 11 at the Cardinal helm. The Huskies have won six of their last seven against Stanford, cashing four of five and four straight in Seattle. Ohio (1-2 SU, 0-2 ATS) has clicked in five of its last seven MAC debuts.

IOWA ST. at NIU (-6): The Huskies looks to add another non-conference scalp to their collection after previous upset wins over Maryland and Alabama. NIU (3-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) has ?covered? 10 of its last 11 and six of seven when favored by 3 ? to 10 points. They haven?t had much luck against the Big-12, however, dropping six in a row SU&ATS). They hare 15-3 as favorites the past three seasons and 7-2 SU and ATS against non-conference competition.
