Mark Grace will hang up the cleats after Sunday's games. Nice player who had a good career and won a ring with Arizona. Solid defensive first baseman who was a good doubles hitter.

But even in Grace's own words, baseball didn't make him famous. BUT "The Slumpbuster" legend on Jim Rome's radio show did! Grace added the terms "slumpbuster" and "jumping on a grenade for the boys" to the English language.

A funny, funny guy who will be missed. Adios, Gracie.

He is my favorite player ever. What a class act, nice fun guy. Always had a great sense of humor. Represented the game more truthfully and right then any other player of his generation

CG you are right he was one in a few and even getting a raw deal this year with dbacks he should of got more time not once did he bitch when you knew it was hurtting him inside, i thought the cubs were going to pick him up in july and let him finish up where he will always be a cub that was on loan, it was great to see him get the ring and he is a guy who just loved the game and the type of guy who is good for the game , won't see many guys have carees like his he will be a hall of fame guy and the slump buster are true funny as hell i along with skeeter crossed paths with him in spring traing quite a bit, skeeter1 is close to him, funny as hell and had a swing that was picture perfect.

wish there were more like him as a person first player 2nd he never act or treated people or team mates or even guys in the minors any different with class all the way if a a or aa guy was in the same complex they do that a lot of teams that have big ones have the whole spring training in 1 site they are splt but still all at 1 place if you saw him and ask for help he would take his time and help the younger guys who were not in big leauge camp and i can tell you this not many guys would do that.

nice job for bringing him up, you going to make it over this year for the party would love to have you.

take care

Eric

It would've been nice if he could've finished up his career with the Cubs but there was too much bad blood after he left.

Grace always reminded me of Keith Hernandez.

He should have his number retired too just like Santo...I think he got a raw deal from the Cubs when he was pretty much forced to leave. I am really glad he did get to play in and win a world series The guy came up through the minors with the Cubs and did not only alot for the team but the city. He will always be Mr. Cub to me, and drank down more than a couple of cold ones at St. Louis and in Chicago. The guy was just plain and simple what a basball player should be. He came to play everyday and made himself available to the fans...

Not only did he have more hits in the 90's than anyone else but he did it without all the wristbands and batting gloves...
