I am starting what may seem to some a morbid project, but here is the deal, my parents are getting up in years (70s) and I want to sit down and interview them on video tape, a tape no one will see until they are gone, then it would be something I would give to my brothers and sisters and grandkids. I know a lot of people who wish they would have done this but never got around to it, well I want to get around to it, now the question I have for all the good folks at Madjacks is, if you could ask your parents just one question what would it be? now the reason I would like your help is the diverse age and experiences of the posters. I would appreciate any questions you post, thanks in advance.

what a great idea :D something many of us may wish we would have done (and one of us is going to steal your idea and do it, even tho there is only one living relative to actually do it with) :(

think one of the things i would like to know is *what is your earliest (childhood) memory.... (not something people have told you about...but something you actually remember)

What was your original plan, if one existed, when starting a family? Ex: children, number of children, boy/girl ratio, who's idea was it? who was the driving force behind this idea? what are your opinions on the results.

People I have talked to all have differing answers to all of these questions. It may be interesting to their descendants to know the path that originated their existance. ;)

Very hard question to answer. :( I think having a tape of parents talking about great times in the family would be nice to have. I always enjoy hearing stories about my childhood. Good LUck.

great idea

what kept you two togeather for so many years ?

what qualities attracted you both to each other

do you have any regrets over things you did or didnt do ?

Try to get them to talk about any family member that would see the tape after their passing.

Like.... what do you remember about the time Uncle Johnnie caught the huge fish and you had to clean it ?

I LOVE THIS IDEA............... I have a diary/photo album that I started maybe 10 years ago that I dedicated to my 4 kids for someday when I am gone , every year I write to each of them in it about the changes they have gone threw , how much I love them and how proud they all make me and of course all of the crazy stuff in between. It will be neat for them to read my thoughts of them someday. ...........its even strange for me reading it sometimes I wrote my fears for them during 911 and what that was like everyone being so scared..............

but back to your subject sorry..........If I could ask my parents 1 question????

It would have to be?

What was your greatest life experience together?????? and with that question i am sure that will open up some story telling about family members

:) great idea let us know what you come up with and how you make out:D

loungelizard....try to get a copy of Martin Scorecess's interview with his parents. You can get it on videotape[try amazon.com or something]
Thats all you need.My nephew copied almost every question and asked my father them.It was awesome.
My newphew is in show biz making movies in NYC.He is a production asst, site supervisor, etc. He has been in about 20-30 movies.
A few yrs ago he bought the Scorecese tape and made a home movie with my father. Most of the questions were taken from Scorecese.
My father pased away 3 yrs and my nephew gave my mother,my sister and me a copy of my father talking about his life. From growing up in the Bronx, teaching,WW 2,etc.
The questions he asked my father were great.Get a copy of that......

this has to be the best thread ever started here at Madjack's...

There are so many questions that I would want to ask them, but here is teh one question I would want them to answer.

What would you want your kids/grandkids to remember you most for?

Very good idea Lizard!

What a great idea Lounge,

one suggestion is to give them a list of your questions a week or two ahead....Tough to be put on the spot in front of a camera, for someone not used to it.

Good Luck
