Last week: 6-5 (-10.2*)
Season: 43-41 (-20.8*)

Once again won more games than I lost, but losing my two big games means I went down in units again. Oh well, maybe this is the week.

Thursday:

7* South Carolina -7
Just think the Cocks can beat the Cats in Columbia. Nothing very scientific here. Going with the better team at home. If you like trends, Cocks are 9-3 ATS against the Cats since '81 and 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings. Make this another.

Saturday:

15* Florida St -6.5 (Make-up GOY)
This is the year the 'Noles look like their old selves again. Miami is not their old selves, and they will discover that FSU has superior talent this time around. How many notice that Miami has not played anyone? BC, LaTech, East Carolina, and Florida do not come close to what they will face in the Noles. They haven't seen a defensive front seven anything like this. Darnell Dockett and Jeff Womble are the top DT combo in the country. Backup Travis Johnson would be starting for almost any other team. End Kevin Emmanuel was a starter at DT as a true freshman. Chauncey Davis is a load on the other side. LBs Kendyll Pope and Michael Boulware are two of the top talents in the country. And the FSU secondary is the best it's been in years. Miami has a good OL, but they are not ready for what they will be facing. I could go into FSU's offense just as much -- they are dripping in talent in the skilled positions. OL is the only question mark, but they're getting the job done. Miami has talent, but they are not as solid as they have been the last couple of years. FSU will win this game solidly. For those who lost on Florida last week on my recommendation, this game is to make up for that.

10* LSU -9.5
The Gators are definitely not the Gators of old. If any of us had any doubts, they were put to rest last week against Ole Miss. In fact, I knew something was wrong when their defense took a hit because their true freshman linebacker wasn't playing. When's the last time Florida depended on a true freshman for their defense to be up to par? Gators' offense is too confused to do much against this LSU defense. Names like Marquise Hill and Marcus Spears were marquee recruits a few years ago. Now they are standouts. Meanwhile, the Tigers are leading the SEC in scoring at 40 points a game. No trends to support this play that I know of, but can't see how Florida trends under Spurrior mean anything with Zook. I look for a huge win by LSU at home.

7* Texas Tech -15.5
Let's see, Iowa St lost to Oklahoma 53-7, Texas Tech beat A&M 59-28, and Pinnacle is offering us this game at 15.5. I know whoever makes up these lines isn't stupid, so maybe I am. When it looks too good to be true, it probably is, right? Can't help it, riding the Red Raiders once again.

Reb, your Texas Tech selection looks like the best bet on the slate this weekend. I live in Iowa and have been reading in the papers that the Cyclones are really banged up from the OU dabacle last week. This Iowa State team is not very good. They barely beat 1AA Northern Iowa. Symons has to be licking his chops in this one.

Good Luck

OAKAS, thanks for the info. I'll have to consider putting a little more on it. Good luck to you!

Nickel, glad you agree with LSU. It sure seems like a winner. Good luck to you this weekend!

ND, LSU and Tech do seem like winners, don't they? I feel good about this week. Good luck to you!

hey reb-
always appreciate your insight, tough loss last week with ole miss. Do you have any thoughts on Pitt/ND? Personally, I don't see why the line is going down and I really like pitt here especially with home field advantage and fitzgerald receiving bombs all day. ND can't handle this team, IMO.

Punch, this isn't a game I'm drawn to. I'm kind of like you, I'd be pulled to go with Pitt, but I'm bothered by the obviousness of it all, especially with the strange line movement. Sometimes when something looks too obvious one way it indicates the other way is the way to go. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I wasn't in the mood to do the write-ups on my two big games when I first posted them, so I have rewritten them if anyone is interested.

More on Florida St: Very few people, unless you've actually had the Tallassee experience, knows how badly these FSU guys want to beat Miami and beat them big. FSU has lost to the Canes the last 3 years, and this doesn't sit well with these guys. There are some on this team who don't want to end their careers never beating Miami, and decisively! The last 2 years in particular Miami has had better talent, better experience, and a better quarterback. That is not the case this year. FSU has more overall talent, and Chrix Rix is a better quarterback than Brock Berlin. If you don't believe me, wait and see which one makes it as a pro. The home team is 11-6 ATS the last 17 meetings, and the favorite is 9-5 ATS in the last 14. Tallahassee comes alive for certain games. When they play Maryland at home, for example, the fans cheer and do the chop and the chant, but NOTHING like when Miami comes to town. The Canes will not only be dealing with the FSU talent, but with the energy and intensity of the whole Seminole Nation. This is a major, major game for FSU, and although it's special to Miami too, they don't have the hosses this year to do to FSU that FSU has to do to them. A huge victory for Florida St, who, for my money, have as good a chance as any of winning the National Championship.

7* Auburn +7
First of all, yes, I bought it up to 7. I don't think there will be more than a touchdown difference in this game, especially if Arkansas wins. Last year the Razorbacks went to Auburn and won 38-17 in a huge upset. Year before, Hogs won again 42-17. So does Arkansas own Auburn? Not necessarily. Is Auburn tired of getting scorched by the Hogs? Hell, yes! There's nothing more the Tigers would rather do than go to Fayetteville and upend the undefeated Hogs and show them who's boss in the SEC West. What's more, they have the hosses to do it. Arkansas has played great all year, but they will have their hands absolutely full in this game. Underdog has covered 5 of the last 6 in this series. The trend will continue, and a upset victory is entirely possible.

I might end up posting the rest of my games on Saturday. One of the problems I've had in college ball is coming to my final conclusions too quickly. I've been doing much better in pros where I wait until Sunday to make final decisions. So, I might post another tonight, but if interested watch my thread tomorrow.

Take care and good luck!

We have several common posted plays: LSU, FSU and Auburn.

You are right on about the LSU Defensive Line. The funny thing is that Lavalais was not as highly touted as Hill or Spears, but is playing better than any of them. I do not see a frosh QB making good decisions under extreme pressure.

5* Michigan -1.5
Got this line at Carib a short time ago. Just have a feeling Michigan is going to win this game. Sometimes a feeling is all it takes.

Saturday games:

15* FSU -6.5
10* LSU -9.5
7* Texas Tech -15.5
7* Auburn +7

Any other games will be posted tomorrow -- without write-ups. Check back if interested.

I really like this play. I've been looking at it all week, and finally decided to pull the trigger. I think the Cowboys win straight up.
