Anyone else see this movie?

I thought it was tremendous, probably the best movie I've seen this year. Certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, but for those who don't enjoy the usual mindless mass market movie trash that is pumped out every week, I think it's well worth watching.

Bill Murray easily warrants a Best Actor nomination..his best work ever, bordering the serious/comedic line in a way I don't think any other actor could have pulled off. Scarlett Johansson does an excellent job as well.

I wasn't a big fan of Sophia Coppola's first movie, "The Virgin Suicides", which I though was way overhyped, but she does a tremendous job this time around. The soundtrack was also a bonus...far from the typical nu-metal or wannabe teen punk crap that permeates almost every other movie nowadays.

I don't know if I can take your word for it Hoops.

I do like Bill Murray though so maybe I should see it.

I didn't like the way you treated the worm in the NFL forum the other day. You just jumped him with very little provacation.

Homey don't take that chit and neither does the worm44.

Scott- I doubt this is your kind of movie, so I will save you the 20 bucks (I know you would want to TITFD and order a large popcorn and soda combo along with the price of the movie ticket), and suggest you don't see it. Catch it when it comes on cable. Or maybe when your sailing on worms yacht, I'm sure he can get you an advanced copy.

Good to hear, Hoops. I am intending to watch this one soon. I know our tastes have run similar on several movies so I am glad that you like it. I am a big Bill Murray fan but you are the first person I know who has seen it.

I look forward to seeing LOST IN TRANSLATION this week. Sounds like it might be one of the better movies released this Fall.

Here are some other movies I've seen in the last week, with a few comments:

SCHOOL OF ROCK -- Wanted to see a brainless movie and kill some time one afternoon -- and this was the perfect movie to do so. Could have been better -- the kids are not believable, but Black carries the movie with a solid performance GRADE B

INTOLERABLE CRUELTY -- You've seen the tralior a thousand times, so there are few surprises. Charismatic performances by the leads -- Clooney and Jones make this watchable. not the Coen Brothers best work. Wish they would have worked on it a bit more -- could have been a classic. GRADE B-

KILL BILL -- Great moviemaking by a great director. Downside-- Pointless plot and too much a ripoff of the Charlies Angles formula. Give Tarrentino an A for creativity -- otherwise a D for story. Horrendous script. Entertaining if you are into brainless action flicks. GRADE B

SCAREFACE -- Re-Released and in theatres fro 20 year annniversary. I had never seen the uncut version until now. Absolutely stunning movie with classic moments. Much better than the version that is shown on TV. GRADE A

OPEN RANGE -- A good old fashioned western. This was panned by the critics, but I thought it was very good. GRADE A-

SECONDHAND LIONS -- Film has some nice moments, but it's far too wrapped up in flashbacks and sentimentality. Too many unbelieveable subplots (Robert Duval cripples a 21 year old with his bare hands -- yeah, right). Michael Caine is a fine actor, but is totally unbelieveable as an American farmer. GRADE C

UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN -- Wive dragged me kicking and screaming to this movie. I somewho managed to sit through it. Movie lost me when the stars' lesbian freind is pregnant and this woman somehow leaves her entire life behind and settles down in Italy. A horrible movie that could have been decent if molded by Merchant-Ivory, but was instead commericalized by some Hollywood type who turned it into this year's most annoying "date" movie. God awful GRADE F

I'd like to hear more reviews, if anyone cares to post them.

I thought Kill Bill was very good as well. Dickey Roberts: Former Child Star wasn't. Please don't ask me why I saw that movie in the first place. Looking back, I really don't know.

I think Ebert said it best when he said Kill Bill is all storytelling and no story (he gave it ****). It is an amazing movie in a number of ways. Characters are full, plot is fascinating, action is truly fun but there is nothing deeper than what you see. I know that isn't the best explanation but maybe if you see the movie you will see what I see. Still an extremely strong recommendation. One of the best movies of the year.

Since we are doing reviews... wife dragged me to :

Underworld :

From what I saw this lady with black hair who shoots guns real good is out after some vampires who are killing humans.

No plot, stupid movie. Alot of killing alien type stuff.

I woke up in about the middle and coasted the last half hour by eating a bag of popcorn. Worst movie of the year kudos.

enjoy !

Nick- Yep, I think it's a movie you will appreciate and enjoy. Hopefully it gets a least some recognition when nominations for the various awards are released.

Nolan- I saw Open Range as well. I thought it was ok...I don't mind slow movies, but this was even a bit too slow for my taste. Costner did a good job directing, but he is such a terrible actor. Some of the lines he delivered made me cringe. As a side note, the theater I went to was completely full during a Sunday matinee screening of Open Range and apparently the old folks homes let out every single senior citizen who was either on life support or needed two people to assist them down the aisle to get to a seat without falling. I was with my father-in-law, who is 62, and he was the second youngest person there.

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. Can you please tell me what was the point of the movie. True the acting by Bill murray was good. But you talk about mindless. I found no substance what so ever I could take away form this movie. I would discourage anyone from wasting there hard earned cash on this one.
