It's a shame that people who go to a game don't pay attention. If the opposing team is hitting and you're near the wall don't reach over or interfere. Just goes to show how ignorant some people are

9 out of 10 people would have done the same thing this guy did. When a ball comes your way the first thing you do is try to grab at it, you dont stop to make sure it is ok for you to catch it, you just do it. I know this guy looks like the devil today but if the cubs would have just made their plays none of this would matter.

I'm wondering what that guy is doing today. I loved the shot of him sitting there with his hat and shirt soaking wet. His fellow Cub fans gave him a champagne toast after that play. :D He still had his head phones on, though. I wonder if he was monitoring police radio, calling for them to quell the lynch mob.
If the Marlins win this, they should send him seaon tickets for next year. If it weren't for that play, there's a real good chance they'd be back in Florida today. :D

I had the "over" in the game. I'll take 'em anyway I can get 'em.

if you look at the pics in every paper nation wide you will see that he isnt the only jack*ss reaching for that ball, however he was the only one that got the booze shower! if it were in NY he would have been tarred and feathered!
last thought, does anyone else think that he looks like he might be slightly retarded?

I agree with Big Time, replay shows that the guy was not alone in trying to catch the ball. Given a minute to think about it, He would probably would have left it alone, BUT, in an instant, the heat of the moment, other fans around you going for the ball also, with the beer flowing, he reacted like 98% of those fans that were there. He did not reach out over the field. That said, &%#&**$%, man I wanted the Cubs to win that game. I do think they will find a way to win it today though, so Cub Fans:grouphug:. Good luck. Buck

I don't know about retarded, but he sure looked like a nebbish. . . especially after being bombarded by the wrath of the other Cub fans.

One other note. Someone mentioned that the fans should know better than to reach into the field of play to interfere with a ball of the opposing team. The kid from NY was a hero when he did that against the Orioles a few years ago. He turned an out into a homerun. The umpire was to blame there, so naturally, the ump became a hero in NY too.
Home fans should know when to reach for a ball, and when not to. This was obviously the time to let the player attempt to make a catch (which I believe he would have). The fact that the ball would have been foul had it not been touched by either a fan or a player kept the play from being a 'fan interference' call when the "fan" made first contact with the ball. :142hump:
