F'ed up?

Whose to say where that ball was going to land or whether short Moises would catch it at all. I'm with AP, he's just a convenient scapegoat for the fact that the Cubs have a lousy 'pen and had to use Prior longer than they should have.

I feel bad for the kid.

Agree with AP.

The Cubs choked and are living up to their history.

Not the kid's fault. People need to do something more constructive with their lives aside from harassing this kid with e-mails, threats, etc.

you're right dragon. Here's the bottom line IMO.......

was it a stupid thing to do catching the ball, YES
would most other people do that from instincts also YES

the reason cubs fans and everyone's villifying this guy is because they're a losing team. People just get more bitter and bitter, and its easy to blame him for doing that, but he didnt make the error, nor did he lose game 5, cubs still have a chance tonight, Im sure the guys rooting for them with both fkin fists in the air, bottom line though, if they go on to lose, for him to be compared to bill buckner is flat out wrong, bucker made a horrible play, but was a PLAYER, I think boston blew chances at that in 86 too w/him too but hes a worthy scapegoat he choked bigtime, this guy is a FAN, he didnt give up all those hits or make the error.. cubs fans are just bitter as fk, and its easy to blame the guy, he just better hope they win tonight, or he will live in INFAMY be it right or not right, until the cubs ever get back to the series again or win it, which wont be in any of our lifetimes

You make a couple real good points and then you end it with a really stupid statement like this. It is that attitude that has the really emotional Cub fans wanting to turn this guy into Satan. The feeling that this is our only chance; that there'll never be another opportunity in the next 50 years. That's simply NOT TRUE! Won't the Cubs have Prior, Wood, and Zambrano back next year? Aren't they getting Patterson back next year? They set a new attendance record this year, so the Tribune company knows they can make more money if they spend a little more; so they will. At the same time they are freeing up $9 million with Karros leaving. They can and will use all this money to go after someone like Tejada, or just add to the pen. Then they've still got one of the best farm systems in baseball, which they can either continue to develop or trade to land a star. The point is that this year has been gravy; no one, and I mean NO ONE in Chicago thought they would get to this point. I was ecstatic just to have the Cubs make it in this year because I think it's the beginning of something really, really special in Chicago. This is not the 89 or 98 Cubs that mortgaged the future to get where they are. They're not going to shoot their load and then disappear for 10 years. Laugh at me now, but just remember this: win or lose tonight, this is the beginning for the Cubs, not the end.

if the cubs cant recover from that then they dont belong in the playoffs.

How can you say that? Because the 86 Sox couldn't recover from Buckner, that means they didn't belong there? Definitely you can say that if they don't recover then they don't belong in the Series, but just beating the Braves proved they belonged in the playoffs.

johnnyonthespot, you make good points. I overlooked the fact of their wealth of young pitching... When I said the fan better pray they win, I didnt say it was the right menatlity, it isnt, but thats what the fans will feel, and the media will run with it, it's a guarantee.............I know the cubs are loaded with the pitching and all, but no matter what, it is VERY hard to get back to the world series regardless, easy to get knocked out in a short series or stumble a little in reg season and get injuries, you need to seize the chance when you're there, and you need luck along the way, I just think they cant afford to squander this opportunity, If they do, it will be a monumental collapse, and that poor fan will have to move which is sad, but I bet its true, just my 2 cents

The 'kid', a 26 year-old, has been offered a 3 month stay by a oceanfront Pompano Beach resort until things "cool down" in Chicago. He would also receive free airfare from the Holiday Inn Oceanside Pompano Beach along with other perks from area businesses.

NY - I hear you and you're absolutely right, this was a tremendous opportunity that they squandered and even when you have a great team there's no guarantee of anything. I just took exception to the definitive statement that they would not be back in this position in any of our lifetimes. Maybe it will work out that way, maybe it won't but the point is that no one would say that about any other team except the Cubs and it's because of their history. However, there history has nothing to do with the current Cub team which, by and large, is very talented with a lot of young stars and some up and coming prospects.

You're also right that the fan will probably have to move now, because there are a lot of idiots out there that will make his life too uncomfortable, even though most Cub fans like myself realize that 1) if he hadn't interefered with the ball there were a half dozen other fans that would have and 2) the Cubs had countless other opportunities to win that game, game 1, and game 7 that had nothing to do with that.
