WASHINGTON CAPITALS (1-2-1-0) AT DALLAS STARS (2-2-0-0), 8:30 p.m. ------------------------------------------------------------------

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars try to halt a two-game losing streak tonight when they welcome the Washington Capitals to AmericanAirlines Center.

Since opening the season with victories over Anaheim and Nashville, Dallas has been defeated by both Buffalo and Boston. On Wednesday, the Stars dropped a 2-0 match to the Bruins in the opener of a four-game homestand.

Marty Turco made just 11 saves for Dallas, which outshot the Bruins, 27-13. The Stars hit the post four times -- twice by center Jason Arnott -- and failed to capitalize on six power plays.

The Stars also continued a telling trend of the young season, as they lost when scored upon first. Dallas is 2-0 when tallying the opening goal and 0-2 when the opposite occurs.

Dave Tippett's club played without right wing, and 2003 Selke winner, Jere Lehtinen, who was scratched with back spasms. Lehtinen is questionable for this evening.

The Stars will resume their current set Sunday against Minnesota.

Washington, meanwhile, is 0-2-1 since an impressive 6-1 pounding of the NY Islanders on opening night. Tuesday the Caps dropped a 5-1 contest in Montreal.

Robert Lang scored in defeat, while backup goaltender Sebastien Charpentier made 25 saves. Washington scored six goals in its season-opening pounding of the Isles, but has totaled the same amount combined in the three games since.

Jaromir Jagr has been held off the scoresheet in consecutive contests after posting two goals and two assists in the first pair of games.

The Capitals will play the third portion of a six-game road trip tonight. They'll pick things up Saturday in St. Louis.

Dallas went 2-0 against Washington last season and is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings. The Caps have lost in six of their last seven trips to Big D.

OTTAWA SENATORS (1-1-0-1) AT MIGHTY DUCKS OF ANAHEIM (0-3-0-0), 10:30 p.m. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Sports Network) - The Western Conference-champion Mighty Ducks of Anaheim continue the search for their first victory tonight when they invite the Ottawa Senators to the Pond.

Anaheim is 0-3 for only the second time ever -- 1998-99 being the other -- and the club has never fallen in its first four games of the season.

The Ducks have dropped contests to Dallas, Nashville and Phoenix thus far, getting outscored by a 9-2 margin. On Sunday their home opener was spoiled with a 2-0 loss to the Coyotes.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 26 shots for the Mighty Ducks, who raised their conference championship banner before the contest. Free agent signee Sergei Fedorov managed a game-high six shots versus Phoenix but still remains in search of his first goal in a Ducks sweater.

Fedorov and winger Vaclav Prospal, the team's significant additions during a free agent period that saw the Ducks lost captain Paul Kariya, have combined for a mere one assist (Fedorov) in three games and are a minus-5 between them.

The Ducks play the second installment of a three-game Pond set tonight and will host Boston on Sunday.

Ottawa, meanwhile, has lost its last two after starting the campaign with a victory over Montreal. The Sens have fallen to Detroit and Los Angeles, including a 4-3 tilt with the host Kings on Wednesday.

Daniel Alfredsson scored a pair of power-play goals for the Senators, who capitalized on three of their seven chances with the man advantage in the first two periods before surrendering a one-goal lead in the final frame. Zdeno Chara also found the net, while backup goaltender Martin Prusek made 23 saves.

Ottawa opened a three-game road trip Wednesday and will wrap things up Saturday in San Jose.

The Sens and Ducks split two games last season, with each club winning in its own rink. Anaheim snapped a seven-game series winless streak (0-5-2) with a 3-2 home win on January 29.

player info

Sergei Samsonov, Boston Bruins - Samsonov did not skate during yesterday's practice due to a sore groin. It's a bit worrisome as he battled groin injuries last year as well, but the Boston Globe reports that he is not expected to miss any games. Samsonov, as we mentioned a few days ago, is now supposedly going to play on the Bruins #2 line which will limit his offensive potential somewhat.

Andy McDonald, Anaheim Mighty Ducks - As stated earlier this week, McDonald will make his return from a concussion for Friday's game against the Senators. He has been out since last February and will play on a line with Sergei Fedorov and Petr Sykora.

Eric Daze, Chicago Blackhawks - Daze returned to Chicago to have his sore back examined. He actually strained his back last weekend and it only started to act up on Wednesday. At this time, it is not known when he will rejoin the team, but obviously it will depend on the results of whatever tests he undergoes.

Jere Lehtinen, Dallas Stars - Lehtinen skated for about 30 minutes before practice Thursday and said his shoulder and back felt better. Lehtinen said he would skate with the team Friday morning before the team decides if he can play against Washington.

Brett Hull, Detroit Red Wings - Hull did not play in Thursday's game against the Canucks due to a sore back. However, the team hopes that he will be back on the ice Friday with hopes of playing in Saturday's game against the Penguins.

Derian Hatcher, Detroit Red Wings - Hatcher left Thursday's game against the Canucks in the first period after apparently spraining his knee. He underwent an MRI soon thereafter, but the results to it won't be available for until later today at the earliest.

Marian Gaborik, Minnesota Wild - Gaborik has left Slovakia to return to Minnesota, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Some may take this as a sign that a prospective deal is imminent, however, the two sides are still roughly $10 million apart. Gaborik wants a three-year, $19.5 million deal while the Wild have thus far only countered with a three-year, $9.5 million deal.

Ladislav Nagy, Phoenix Coyotes - Nagy was scratched from Thursday's game against the Lightning after re-aggravating a groin injury that has bothered him for much of this season. The injury is not considered serious and he hopes to be back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Flyers.

Martin Havlat, Ottawa Senators - Havlat will likely make his season debut tonight against the Ducks, reports the Ottawa Sun. Based on line combinations in practice, most likely Havlat will play on a line with Jason Spezza and Peter Schaefer. Other lines will include: Daniel Alfredsson with Todd White and Peter Schastlivy, as well as Marian Hossa with Radek Bonk and Vaclav Varada. Bryan Smolinski, Shaun Van Allen and Chris Neil will round out the fourth line.

goalie info

Olaf Kolzig, Washington Capitals - Kolzig will be the starter for Friday's game against the Stars, reports the Washington Times.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Giguere is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Senators.

Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - Turco is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Capitals.

Patrick Lalime, Ottawa Senators - Lalime is the probable starter for Friday's game against the Mighty Ducks.

Byron Dafoe, Atlanta Thrashers - As some of you may have noticed, Dafoe has yet to play a single game this year for the Thrashers. However, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, this doesn't necessarily mean that he is entrenched into the backup role to Pasi Nurminen. Instead, coach Bob Hartley has stated that he will determine starts based on whichever goalie wins and so far, Nurminen is undefeated. Dafoe will get his starts sooner or later, but we still feel like Nurminen is the better bet for the remainder of the year.

Dwayne Roloson, Minnesota Wild - Coach Jaques Lemaire confirmed to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that Roloson would start Saturday's game against the Canucks and Manny Fernandez would then start Sunday's game against the Stars. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
