Huskies front 4 will keep Frye in check. Well, he will get his numbers but he won't go nuts today. Look for the Huskies to control the game with Bellamy(TB filling in for injured Caulley). This kid is big and strong, he holds onto the ball, and gets most of his yards after 1st contact. Orlovsky will throw just enough screens and short slants to this extremely talanented core of receivers to keep that 8th man honest for the Akron D. The Zips cannot over-commit to the run because Dan Orlovsky will burn you with the deep ball. Coach Edsall will not let this game become a shootout. Look for UConn to win by 14-17 Points.

Key to the Game:
-Osunde will get pressure on Frye, there might not be a quicker pass rusher out there and he is just 3 sacks short of the school record held by Connecticut's own Steve Beal (1979). That said, it's all about the containment of Frye after he is flushed from the pocket. This kid is big and he can pull it down and run.

-Coach Edsall has been quoted as saying that Frye accounts for over 65% of Akron's Offense. That's respect and it's also awareness of the importance of stopping this kid. Who will step up for Akron when Frye is shut down? Nobody.

-With all the attention being on Charlie Frye, Dan Orlovsky will be overlooked by fans, media, and handicappers alike. This kid(Orlovsky) is 2nd in the Nation is passing TD's with 22, 4th in passing yardage with 2,302, and at 6'4" he is a presence in the pocket. He always sticks with the game plan, rarely forces the ball down field, and he'll live to punt if necessary. You won't see Akron getting points of turnovers today. This is a very well-coached and well-disciplined team. The offense is designed to chip away at defenses by hitting them square in the jaw by the running the ball up the gut. This sets up the screen by keeping interior lineman honest. UConn has perfected the screen this year. The screens chip away at the secondary by making them cheat out of frustration. As soon as the safety and LB's creep up trying to sniff out a screen that's when Orlovsky hits Henry deep downfield for 6. Message to Henry: Please hold onto the ball!!! If you drop one more pass for a 1st down or score I will personally kick your ass.

-It's homecoming, students will be loud, Rentschler will be booming, and I'm telling you guys this for a little place that only holds 40,000 people the fans are right on top of the playing field and it can be a loud and intimidating environment for opponents.

To Sum it all up:
UConn will be deliberate and patient on offense in order to keep Frye on the sidelines. You will see a 3 to 2 run/pass ratio. In those passes more than half will be screens. Orlovsky will have a big day efficiency wise if he doesn't put up huge numbers. Bellamy will run for 165+ yards with 2-3 scores. Mulcahy will be plying hurt today but he will be playing and that's important because you can't run on this UCONN defense. Ask Derek Knight of Boston College. Akron will live or die on the BIG PLAYS this afternoon and Edsall has the dogs ready.

UCONN 37 Akron 24 (I'm giving Akron the utmost respect with this predicted score, I happen to think the margin of victory will be bigger, 37-24 is if Frye can be successful in his 65% role in the offense)
Triple Play $330 to make $300

You can call me a homer or you can take my knowledge of this team as an asset. I have bet against UConn(BC, VaTech, Kent State) just as much as I have bet(vs Indiana, Army, and Akron)them this year. I am 6-0 ATS wagering on UConn games. I attend practices, live minutes from Storrs, and follow this team to a T. I feel very strongly about today's matchup. Akron and Charlie Frye will not sneak up on UConn today like Cribbs from Kent State did a week ago. I know when it's time to load up on em or load up against em. Today is a good day to be a UConn Backer.

FYI: Dan Orlovsky has thrown at least 1 TD pass in 20 consecutive games, one game shy of the record held by Shane Stafford's 21 games(1996-98). Orlovsky is also one TD pass away from tying Stafford's single-season TD pass record of 23(1997). Three records could be tied or broken today. Osunde can become 3rd all-time with one sack and 1st all-time with 3 sacks and he is a freak capable of these feats. Orlovsky will tie or break both passing records today.

My other early plays:
11/10
Purdue +5
Wake Forest +19 Bought the hook

Good Luck to all!!!!

"the bunker"
mick...like `em

mick...like `em

particularly uconn...the comparative strength of schedule and akron`s lack of defense.....i can`t for the life of me figure out why this is dropping.....maybe this is the over reaction to the mac`s success this year....but,there is no defense on the akron side of the ball...i got 7.5 and bought to 7...like it alot....

this game is just way too tough. uconn probably gonna be focused after the kent state scare. but akron is just one of those teams thats such a live dog because of that offense.

uconn's schedule isnt as impressive as i thought as far as balance. theyve played some upper echelon teams, but theyve played some real mutants too. not a whole lot of middle-of-the-road competition.

really cant see either team stopping the other. over the total could be worth a look. gotta be honest, neither team is worth mentioning defensively.

gl. real tough game

May be wrong but.............

May be wrong but.............

Ct should kick Akron's ass today .......AND ...they should have dropped 50 on Kent last week!!! 500yds to 300....200+ rushing.......... If they start to turn the opp. over as last year...better results
CT ....no respect ...IMHO ............DD win today

akron probably the 2nd best offense uconn has faced all year outside of nc state.

virginia tech did most of their damage on defense and special teams.

huskies havent faced any real wide open offenses like akron has.

bottom line is i just dont trust akrons defense to hold uconn down either.

bear/mick....whats the weather like up there? clear? any rain or weather to worry about?

Tha's been the story all season...one week they get too much respect from the oddsmakers as they did on the road vs Kent last week and the next week they get no respect as is the case this week vs Akron. Oddsmakers are confused when it comes to reading this team and I love it. I've been able to capitalize on their confusion. Examples:

Lack of Respect
Uconn -5 vs Indiana
Uconn -18 at Army

Too Much Respect
Uconn +3.5 vs BC
Uconn +20 vs VaTech
Uconn -11.5 at Kent State

They really have no clue and they haven't for the past 3 years.
Good Luck guys, gotta go watch this one on YES. I'll keep the board updated on the game.

My Point Exactly GMan

My Point Exactly GMan

All of the focus is on Akron's Offense, but keep this in mind my friend, UConn is equally potent...8th in the Nation in total yards and 34th in the Nation in Scoring...not too shabby. I respect your opinions buddy but I feel very strong about this one. Uconn's defense will show up after a great week of practice with a great Scout QB running the Akron schemes. Osunde looked pumped up on Wednesday, I think you'll see him hit another gear today. CONTAINMENT is key...EDSALL worked unusually close with the D in the practice this week, normally he works with the Offense, and he must have said containment 5,000 times to his LB's this week, they will not get burned by the is kid more than twice.
Good Luck with the Zips.
One of us will win and that's good news. Just hope it's me. No offense. There will be plenty of that in today's game...mostly from the Huskies I believe.

mick:

i didnt play akron. i lean that way, but cant trust their defense, thus- i pass for now. maybe something at halftime but this game is just too tough.

honestly, i agree with a lot of what you posted but im not buying uconn as a good defense. this game will be a real test for them. akron is capable of scoring 40 every game. the thing is, they (akron) are just as capable of giving up 50.

enjoy the game

youre in for a good game. frye is really impressive this year and hendry is a solid back who is capable of breakin long ones.

im out

GMAN

It's like a spring day up here. I live minutes from Rentschler. It's a bright sunny day with temps in the upper 60's and slight wind. I'm going outside to throw the ball around witht he neighborhood kids in a T-Shirt. Come with me for this Gman. I'm really feeling it. I just locked in at 7 after buying the hook. This line went from 11 to 7. Jump on board, there's plenty of room on the UConn bandwagon...LOL!!!

Good Luck

THERE YOU GO

THERE YOU GO

OSUNDE just knocked Charlie Frye out of the game on Akron's 1st play from scrimmage. Not sure how bad he's hurt but he' still on the ground. Look's like a shoulder injury. Osunde caught him from behind scrambling. I hope the kid's ok.

Hey Mick,

Any update on Frye? I'm stuck at work and don't know where to get real time scoring on this game. Thanks.

Charlie Frye

Charlie Frye

Contusion on the Hip will return but is in a lot of pain. There goes a little of that mobility. On another note, Orlovsky looks terrible throwing an INT forcing a ball into coverage and the UConn D looks flat. Not a good sign this team looks aweful so far. We'll see how they adjust.

7-0

7-0

Akron strikes 1st and UConn looks passive on Defense. One big play for Akron and None for the Huskies if you're keeping track. In order to cover Uconn will have to hold Akron to less than 3 big plays.

Frye is playing

Frye is playing

He looks a little gimpy but still effective. It looks like Akron's game plan is to run, run, run anyway.

Another UConn Turnover

I got sucked into a trap line. I'm a sucker. Wait!!! Interception, UCONN ball, maybe I'm not a SUCKA. I love the emotions of college football. UConn ball on the Akron 42.

this game is a microcosm of the akron program.

tons of big plays for the zips, but they cant stop anyone on defense. zips in typical shootout mode, and they look pretty good doin it
