in all seriousness, props to the marlins.

as you know, i was basically ambivalent to the whole world series. didnt really want to see new york win, didnt really want to see florida win it.

i think one thing that irks me about the marlins was how they became a "chic" attraction this october after nobody supported them throughout the season.

even when they were playing the expos and the phils for the wild card late in the regular season, they were drawing less than 10,000. thats pathetic (and inexcusable) and that speaks a lot about the fan base.

thats why i was so ambivalent.

as much as i hate the red sox and yanks, those are two fan bases that support their teams through thick and thin. hell, even the cubs support their team throughout losing seasons and when times are rough.

its really sad cuz florida will go back to drawing <10,000 fans next spring. the players on that team deserve better

what am i missing? seriously. because to me, i think that the players deserve every bit of that title for being able to focus and compete with no support throughout the entire season (until it became "chic" to be seen at a marlins game)

im a huge beckett fan, so im glad to see him have success. didnt expect him to pitch that well tonight, but he was lights out.

so to the marlins i say
to the general fan base, i offer

Congratulations to all the marlins backers.
(Including me, I took them for the series $500 to win $1000)
I am a big giants fan. I hate my giants lost but I did see something special on the Marlins which I didn't see on the other playoff teams. They deserve the World Champions.

CONGRATS TO HR, ALL FISH BACKERS....and what a great World Series! :D

If anything, it's really refreshing to have these young Marlins win the darn thing. What a journey, a team with lots of potential in spring training, Torborg fired and Jack takes over, motivating this club to perform at their peak, great call-ups like Cabrera and Willis, hot down the stretch...and finally the championship. Yeah, we all expect the Yanks to win...but they're the ones with all the hype, the tradition, the $$$. The Fish....underdogs who played like a team, the more motivated team it seemed at times. They are this year's Angels. But the victory is even sweeter and more amazing. Anahiem rediscovered their fans (or vice versa) last year, now it's Florida's turn.

Anytime the New York Yankees lose its a good thing!!! I personally hate all New york teams. They spend money like they grow it on trees. IE NY Rangers.. Money doesnt buy you a championship anymore. It takes heart and determination. Florida looked great since the start of the playoffs. I never thought they had a chance of coming back against Chicago but they did.

Congrats to Florida and their backers!! I'm just happy to see NY lose!! :D

Naw this is not true, by mid August when the city started to realize how good this team and that the players on this team would be around next year, the city began to embrace the team.

I was 2 of the 3 games against the Phils, late in the season and there was a good 30,000-35,000. Maybe on TV the stadium looked empty, but Pro Player is huge baseball venue, can pack in over 65,000.

The fan base here is solid, just very disenchanted after the fire sale in '97. The city espically the hispanic population has really warmed up to the team.

i stand corrected. the phillies series did draw fairly well. i was thinking of the expos/marlins earlier that month because at the time , the expos and marlins were very close in the wild card race and 3 of the 4 games at pro player for that series drew less than 12,000.

gl and congrats

MARLINS CROWDS

MARLINS CROWDS

I was in Miami in June ...to see The Oakland A's /Marlins...

Place was empty, but i have to say that the public transportation sucks to Pro-Player Stadium for baseball games.

It's only buses and you never know when the bus is coming or if it is coming. And you have to leave early in the game because MIAMIS' BUS ROUTES cut off early in the evening.

If you don't drive to Pro Player Stadium--then forget about going.

First let me say Congradulations to the Florida Marlins, but you guys are forgetting just one little thing. This is also a business, yes all new yorkers and myself are deeply saddened about the yankees losing but Mr. STeinbrenner did come out on top. He made money again this year unlike many teams in professional sports. We all know he spends lots of money on players but he puts people in the stands year after year and has all of new york actually paying to watch the games on tv. he knows what he is doing.
many people seem to forget that this is also a business.
