some of you have seen me post about my pathetic chargers. well, you have to read this email from a buddy of mine who sat the sidelines in phoenix for the monday nighter last week. It's long, but please read it. It may help in future betting. And man, I should have posted this last week, we could have made some serious dough on the bears.

"I had the opportunity to work the Charger game in Phoenix on Monday. My Charger friend was short handed with the video stuff. I was responsible to take the pictures the video guys took every play on put them into a binder and then when the offense came off the field I gave 1 set to Marty's son ( who is the QB coach ), and the other set to the Offensive line coach. It was an eye opening experience. Here are some of the thoughts I have after spending the entire night with the Chargers.
1. They have very little leadership. Marty gave a great pregame locker room speech, but besides that, there was little to no emotion..
2. Drew Brees. Lorenzo Neal and LT are the only people on offense that seemed to care, have focus, and show any kind of leadership.
3. Marty's son is completely over matched as QB coach. Brees came to the Chargers a winner, he started out his pro career a winner, and now we are calling for his head.... Lets step back and look what he has dealt with. First, his Offensive line is young and lacks experience, his best lineman is out for the year. Second, He lacks WR's... Boston and Dwight are horseshit. His TE is Pelle.. Who is that ? Third, Flutie gives Brees NO advice. I had to stand besides the offensive guys as they looked at the pictures . Not one time did Flutie offer any opinion, instead he stood there looking bored and gazing into the stands. He gave me the impression that he didn't give a crap. Forth, Brian Shotenheimer is suppose to take Brees to another level. For those of you who don't know his background, he is about 28 yrs old, he was a good HS QB, he was a walk on at U of Florida where he never played and now he is our QB coach.
4. James Lofton was a great WR, as a coached he sucks. He had a pregame meeting with the WR's that I didn't hear, but after that it was the last time he said anything to any of the WR's. He stood on the sidelines and gazed at his watch more then he gazed at what Brees or Shotenheimer had to say on the sidelines.
5. David Boston probably didn't say a word all night to anybody. There was no interaction at all with Brees, except the one time Brees jumped down is throat for not running his route. I was this guy after that incident, I couldn't believe what I saw. When it was a running play, he barely moved at all. When it was a passing play not attended for him, he jogged and didn't finish his routes. He is a bad guy.............
5. Tim Dwight is a dick. All he does is complain. He yells at his players for missing blocks, he yells at coaches for play calling, he yells at Brees for not looking his way, he rants and raves up and down the sideline bitching he isn't getting enough touches. I am not a football guy, maybe he is right, BUT it brought the entire team down, and it definitley showed a lack of leadership.

7. At half you could tell Marty and the other coaches had lost this team, there was arguments among coaches and players. When they left the lockerroom you could tell by their body language and looking in their eyes that they where beat and where giving up. EXCEPT for Neal, Brees and LT. Neal never gave up, he paced up and down the sidelines trying to motivate the guys. Brees takes all the blame. A couple examples, Pelle ran a wrong route resulting in a interception. Marty jumped down Pelle's face on the sidelines. A thought Pelle was going to cry, Brees comes over and pats him on the back and said something to the effect that he should of noticed and not thrown the ball. When Brees got sacked for about the 5th time the Line coach reemed his line a new ass.
Afterwards these guys where depleted, once again, Brees comes over to offer support and tells them he needs to read the blitz's better and get rid of the ba!
ll. As for LT, this guy cares. He along with Brees is the leader of this team, he is very smart, he knows everybody's assignments, he talks to the lineman about what they should be doing, he talks to the WR's ( except Boston ) about blocking. And he and Brees have constant interaction on the bench. As the clock was winding down, tears where boring out of LT's eyes. In the locker room he spoke the truth. He called out his team and told the ones that don't care to Quit or leave after the year. That he and Brees where going to be here when the team WINS it all.
Finally, I wish all of guys, especially the passionate Charger fans could of experienced this. The Problem isn't Brees, It is a combo of a lot of things, starting with the coaches, the lack of talent and experience, and finally, the lack of veteran leadership. It is sad that basically the only leaders are guys in their 3rd year. Don't give up the faith, as much as we all are disappointed with the season, things will turn around. Brees is going to be a effecient QB when he gets the proper coaching, and I thing we all agree LT is going to be a hall of famer."

any responses are welcome.

no disrespect to any drew brees fan....or supporter...but i think its time to take a serious look at whether this kid is really the answer at QB....he has some nice game here and there...but i have watched him in at least three games this year...and he looks like he is regressing big time....he forces passes and makes terrible decisions....

i am not saying that he may eventually start to turn it around but i certainly think that maybe its may be time to ask the question ..as to whether he is giing to improve and is he the qb of the future for sd...

good luck guys

I agree about Brees 100%

I agree about Brees 100%

I understand the O-Line troubles but his decision making looks sub-NFL level. This could be a good year to draft a QB for the Chargers. Or if they are gonna stick with Brees start to draft lineman and bring in some solid vets at the position. Flutie might not be the worst option with a patchwork o-line. I love that kid Tomlinson. They have the foundation but a pig-headed headcoach never helps.

i couldn't have said it better, bress is no montana, but he needs a supporting staff anchored by some O-line and a decent tight end (something the chargers have always had prior to this past year). Brees is a good player, but good players make mistakes when they have 250 pound d linemen up their ass the majority of the game. I just hope the chargers get their shit together by the time they play the bungholes.

That is a great read! Funny thing is when I was at the game last week I took my brother who happened to be in town and is a huge Dolphins fan. We said to each other how it looked like the Chargers had given up in the 2nd half. No emotion and the defense was downright pathetic. Thanks for sharing this piece.

I couldn't believe they couldn't beat the bears. I went to the game last week and the team looks really down. I could see Flutie talk to Brees everytime he came to the bench and I tell you when Flutie went it, that team had some new life into him. I hear that Flutie might split time with him at QB this week but who knows with Marty. But you have to wonder about all the crap that has happend. They had to rush to Phoenix to play a game than fly out to Champaign, IL to practice their, than fly up to Chicago. Shouldn't really be an excuse, but still that would drain on alot of people.

I'LL TELL U THE CHARGERS PROB, DREW BREES IS THE WORST QB IN THE LEAGUE. HES TERRIBLE, INTERCEPTION AFTER INTERCEPTION AFTER INCOPLETE PASS. I KNOW THE O-LINE ISNT STRONG BUT IT DOESNT MATTER WITH HIM. HE CAN SCRAMBLE PRETTY GOOD OUT OF THE POCKET BUT CANT DO DICK AFTER THAT. HES LOST, I WATCHED HIM OVER AND OVER. GET FLUTIE IN THERE WHAT THE F*CK IS THERE TO THINK ABOUT THAT??? FLUTIE CAN DRIVE THE TEAM TO THE ENDZONE WHILE BREES DRIVES THE OPPOSING TEAMS INTO THEIR ENDZONE. BREES AND RYAN LEAF SHOULD START HANGING OUT CAUSE THEY BOTH ARE PROFESSIONAL LETDOWNS.
