Tonight

To be honest I was expecting this line to be around 4 and I was a little shocked when it came out 6 and then bet up to the 7.5 range. In my opinion the 7 points is a lot of points to be giving to a team that has excelled throughout the year on both sides of the ball and has played a solid non conference schedule. I have watched both teams play at least three times a piece and feel that both teams are more than capable of winning this game outright, BGSU has allready won on the road at Purdue and had Ohio State on the ropes until the final gun sounded, on the other hand it's hard to not pay attention to what Miami has done on the road in beating a solid Colorado State team and knocking off a average Northwestern. Other key factors going Miami's way are: 1) they have dominated this series, Hoeppner has never lost to BGSU going 3-0, 2) a strong rotation at the running back spot with Murray and Smith, allowing the Hawks to own the 4th quarter, 3) home field advantage, Yager Stadium is one of the toughest venues for a visiting team in the MAC, 4) Big Ben, what more needs to be said about Ben, the Buckeyes must of been asleep at the wheel to not have landed this kid. 5) An experienced head coach going against a first year mentor. Even with all of the advantages going Miami's way I am going to lay my Benjamin's on the Falcons tonight, I think that the team has allready played in some tough road venues so they should not be overwhelmed tonight, Harris is a witch with the ball and will create matchup problems for the miami defense, a defense that has been solid throughout the year. My gut feeling on this game is that it is going to come down to which team can establish a running game and control the clock, both teams can throw the hell out of the ball but whomever controls the ground will win this game.

Why do you guys bet on crappy conferences like the mid American and whatever rinky dink conf Utah State is in? Stay with the good conferences like the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 etc, less crazy things happen. Auburn is the lock of the decade this Sat

These "Crappy" conferences present some of the best opportunities. Take a look at some of the best cappers on here and you will see they stay away from the big marquee games and conferences.

King Cobra,

I would appreciate it in the future if you want to post in my thread that you keep your topics to handicapping games and not attacking other's. You have done this all year, and I believe that Auburn was the first play you ever posted here but you show your lack of handicapping savvy when you bash smaller conferences. Personally, if you took the time to study the conferences and lines that go with them there is usually quite a better opportunity in the smaller conferences and for you to say the MAC sucks ask Maryland, Purdue, Alabama, Pitt, NW or Colorado State just how bad the MAC sucks.

i know akron is vastly superior to central michigan but i dont know how akron can be laying that many points when they can win the battle in the trenches. zips run defense is porous and thats what central does well. that being said, central stinks. i think thats a real tough game. not sure if zips deserve to be laying those road points.

couldn't have said it any better myself.....

you're pretty closed minded if you feel that you can't make money on the smaller conferences.....watch for us to dominate in NCAA basketball in the smaller, lesser known conferences.....check out THAT forum as well, you may learn a trick or two.;)

Joede,

Akron should beat CMU outright, but Frye has been banged up and Zips defense is suspect. CMU has one of the deeper backfields in the MAC.

Toronto,

Can't wait for hoops, pretty sad that some people think college football only revolves around big conferences.

I don't have time to look it up, but either last year or the year before, the hog's went 7 OT's with either Miss or Miss St. They
are the KINGS of OT. I think they came out flat the next game.
AND Lou is the king of motivators, I would'nt be suprised to see
this game go down to the last second.

Joe,

Here is what I come up with in regards to your overtime theory keep in mind this is just based on the 2003 season: Teams come off a overtime game have covered the spread the next game 12 times and failed to cover the spread the next game 20 times. The one thing I noticed is that the overtime tends to really hurt teams outside the bigger conferences because of their lack of depth as they went 3 covers and 8 non covers following a OT game.

I think that King Cobra is exactly right about playing teams in the smaller leagues, these teams are unpredictable and for the most part not great athletes. When the bowl season comes teams from the minor leagues such as Sun Belt, MAC and MWC will get eaten alive by the big boys, there is a reason why these players were not recruited by the better leagues.

Comment on two games: CAUTION.....FWIW
1.Navy + whatever...at first i looked at this game and thought +10 was an extravagant number...then a day or two later i begin to wonder why vegas put this number up. sO THIS IS WHAT I'VE COME UP WITH..Notre dame has played 8 games of which 7 were with top 25 teams and 1 in the top 30 Boston College..this was a treacherous journey this year for the holy boys. The strength in schedule leads me to believe N.D. is the stronger team this weekend regardless of what the stats show and they are certainly on Navys side and my stats show Navy by 3 but there are times when you have to use your gut feeling and throw out the numbers ...Navys schedule is/was WEAK. The loss to Delaware, a 1AA team, makes navy suspect on the road.
And yes i'm well aware of all the stats and the astounding trends put out on the net (naming a few) Thunder, weasel, and etc. all good cappers i might add. But we get sucked into hype on a game and at times it's worthy of a play but this game has the makings for a BLOWOUT by Notre dame. Willingham has not had one easy game this year, but the next 4 games he can save face this year. I expect N.D to win'em all. Don't know how i'm going to play this game ... if at all. Opinions are always welcomed

2.Purdue-2'..i see the same thing here with a lot of hype..Iowa is the better team on both sides of the ball..don't see a blowout but a close game with Iowa winning.

We are well into the season and the games are getting tough to cap. The lines in many cases are sharp. I'll probably use a couple of teaser which i usally don't post on the saturday thread and rarely play. I Only play teasers on my major picks.
Here are some i like but have not played ALL of these, still confirming data :

South Carolina s/u to win and key off with a 6 point teaser i have played this game twice this week and will play on every half point upwards
Troy state
Arkansas state...THESE TWO ARE FOR KING COBRA AND JEFFNA
Indiana...DiNardo may get his 1st conference win this year
North Texas
Alabama and the OVER...Fant QB for State can and will score points
South Florida
Duke in a 6 point teaser and with the over 31/32
Northwestern...i think they reserved themselves for this game.
Iowa
Missouri
Northern Illini
Syracuse
Air Force.....the above two appears to be easy covers

Being extremely cautious this week after the loss on Bowling Green.....the numbers did not come thru as expected....being beat by 23 points tells me Vegas has got their shit together on the spreads.gl

I feel like a thief cashing my TCU ticket, Louisville should of won this game by 6 or more points. Tough luck Card backers, their kicker usually is quite sharp

Joe,

Navy-ND
I have ND winning this tilt by 6.5, but at this point I am a little shaky about backing Navy here because of 1) The dominance of ND in this series, 2) ND has played one hell of a schedule, on the other hand Navy has played maybe 3 quality opponets and Delaware was one of them they are the number 2 team in 1AA. Navy has been very good to me this year so I may end up taking a flyer on them but at this moment passing.

Purdue-Iowa
I havethis game capped at 1.5 Pur, I may play the Boilers here, Iowa's offense really doesnt impress me. Tiller will have a good game plan for the Hawkeyes since the loser of this game probably is going to fall to a lower tier bowl possibly the Sun Bowl.
Both ofthese teams have a solid defense so this game could be very low scoring add in that the midwest is expecting a major cold front this weekend.

South Carolina-Ark
You would think that Holtz would have his team fired up to play at one of his former stomping grounds. Two notes on this game, Nutt is 15-0 at Little Rock and I hope that Mike Gottfried didn't put this kiss of death on SC when he picked them.

Ark State-Idaho
I have Ark State circled for a possible play, but not sure yet their offense is terrible.

Ind-ILL
I played Indy small allready waiting to see the status of Levecchio for Sat, may play more if he is healthy.

Ntex
Wouldnt surprise me if they throw another shutout this week.

Bama and over
Not sure on this one, Miss State has owned this series vs the spread, sort of like the over since both teams can score.

Duke
Pass for me, coach was shitcanned, hard to gauge if the players are just going to go through the motions until the season ends.

NW
Cats need this one to get a bowl bid if they lose they are done. I think their offense will create match-up problems for PSU but one concern is NW's kicking game absolutely the worst in the country. I would really be surprised if Walker tries a field goal the rest of the year that's how bad their kicking game is. I also think the under is very low, NW plays no defense.

Mizzou,

They are the better team and in my opinion have one of the top 3 coaches in the big 12, I was sort of looking at the over in this game.

NILL
Buff is playing their best ball of the year right now, the score vs Toledo was very misleading. NILL has Toledo next week so I would not be shocked that if they get a big lead they pull starters.

Cuse
Temple will not stop Cuse's running game I have been holding out waiting to see if the line drops. One concern is that Cuse has Miami next week may be a look ahead game. Game is off the board now Temple QB ?

Air Force
I think they can name the score

What do you think about these sides?
Troy State
Rutgers
Houston
Ariz State
UTEP
Tenn
Reno
Kansas
Western Mich
Okie State
BC

MC here is what i have and opinions:
Troy state comes up as a Laugher pick, but they can't score points..it's a play but how much is the question. i'm getting some info today from local sources...

Rutgers is a no play for me could go either way..lean to Uconn

Houston...lean to Southern Miss..not unless other info develops

Ariz State is a play at 2' not 3

UTEP..will win this game

Tennessee..weak defensive secondry..they get beat by 14 or more.

Reno..strange game on paper...i show Fresno...but i'm leaning the other way.

Kansas+18 at home ..this team is one of the best covering teams ..i'll probably play this game.

W.Michigan...no opinion ..i follow you , gman and hellah on these games..i can't get a feel for the MAC...almost as bad as the SEC to cap anymore

Okla State is a gut play in my opinion..i'll lean to Okla state to win

Boston College...with the injuries on WVA you have to lean to BC...stats show slight edge to WVA...I'm leaning and probably go with BC..trends are strong in their favor. I'll probably play this game with a 6 point teaser and key off with northwestern and/or South Carolina and an option with Pitt. seems to be the safer play using teasers to win.

Purdue...i'm on the other side>>Fred Russell is the key to this game<<

Joe De, I don't understand why you would even waste your time playing teams such as UTEP or Troy State, both of these teams have hopeless seasons going and like all other lower rung conf teams they are unpredictable. Also, South Carolina has little chance of covering tonight they have no passing game and Nutt will stop the run.
